Am I Really Ready For Gastric Sleeve.. ?

Recommended Posts

I am having my surgery on dec 9. I am not required to do a preop diet except for the two daysbefore the surgery. I have tried within the last couple of months to lose 10 pounds..but Bly lost 3 pounds so fat. For some reason I cannot stay on a dietgbefore the surgery..and I think it is because I am not required to lose weight. It makes me wonder if I am really ready for the sleeve., please let me hear from you and what u think. Btw..I am typing and the page is lire tally blank.. Something is wrong with the system. So apologize with the grammar.

Once surgery is done you will find it is fairly easy to stay on the plan. Prior to surgery I made a few goals for myself. They followed the lifestyle changes my doc wanted me to make post op. I stopped all caffeine, ate Protein with every meal, stopped drinking with my meals, etc.

If could have stayed on a diet, then I wouldn't have needed the surgery. Don't beat yourself up about it.

I had a very hard time with the pre-op diet too. After surgery, my entire mind set changed about food and it's like night and day. No more cravings, I don't obsess about certain flavors.

Post-op, I could do the pre-op diet all over again and not think twice about it, whereas before, I was always focused on how hard it was to stay on the liquid diet, missing solid food, and certain flavors.

I don't know what changed in my brain after surgery, maybe it was the reduction of the ghrelin homorne, not having sugar and high carb foods for months post-op, or if surgery was the kick in the pants I needed. I just know it worked for me and I'd do it all over again in a minute!

Losing weight for the surgery is not just so you can lose weight. It is so your surgery wont have complications. Key organs shrink, leaving the surgeon clear access to your stomach. So weight loss now is not an indication of how successful your weight loss will be after or small issues like that, it is so your surgery can be safe. Don't play it dumb and cheat the preop, its the difference between laproscopic or the surgeon unable to do it laproscopically and rely having to actually cut you open to move aside organs.

Just today from church, I thought to myself, 'self, am I serious about this because I am eating the foods that I will have to say good bye to?' I have heard that this is natural up to the point of the surgery for some. I seriously don't want to be the "some" I read about but if I am, I know that when it happens, my new stomach will force bad decisions to cease and desist. Two days on a liquid diet isn't bad. Good luck and see you in post-op land one day.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
