X-Ray There And Back!

Recommended Posts

Please tell me that it is not the titanium staples that are causing me to be Xrayed at the airport....On the way to my brothers and on the way back I was treated like a criminal...They had no patients they ordered me to step aside and either be bodily searched or xrayed...I asked what the difference was and they said that one is more demeaning then the other...I chose to be xrayed.... :(

Mind you ...I had no metal on at all...no shoes...not even my wedding rings...

My hubby got through both times with out a hitch....If I go through this every time it is going to be a huge pain!!!!

The upside of the airplane is I did not have to get an extension for my seat belt and the table came down with room to spare....Now that was exciting!!!!!!!!

Hi, RJ.

My doc's office specifically said the titanium staples should not get you stopped at airport security. I thought that was odd, but I'm not technical enough to know how these things work.

I do know that about 90% of the times I fly out of my local airport, I get pulled aside for "random extra screening". They tell me I am not being profiled, I am jus the lucky one that gets selected. I actually made a comment about it the other day, "How random can it be when you select me 9 out of 10 times I fly out of here." He didn't like that!

When you were exray'd I assume they didn't find anything? Did you explain the staples?

No and they did not ask me either....Once they realized I was not carrying a bomb they just said GO! how rude is that...

I heard that the staples would not show up either at an airport....Seems to me that is false! Gee gads!!!!!!!!!

If you don't fly often you have a tendency to get a higher security check.

We flew in October and it looked like every person in line had to go threw the X-ray. Is that the weird glass room? People went in, turned sideways and held their hands up over their heads, and something rotated around them. Is that the X-ray? We flew from Boston to Albquequere, and even when we flew out of the little Albquequere airport it was the same thing. Both times we were pulled aside to go through the regular medal detector because we were traveling with kids. But the whole line was headed for the fancy thing.

We fly at least once a year, but this seemed very different from what I remember.

Forgive my typos, I can't figure out how to edit. I hate learning new programs! When I hit edit the whole tread pops up with no way to edit it. Am I suppose to copy and paste my whole post in that empty box? Whatever...

I have knee replacements that are made out of plastic and titanium, and I have to be scanned or frisked every time I fly. I got used to it, and make sure I build in extra time to get through security.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
