Any Nurses Out There Getting Sleeved? Fmla

Recommended Posts

Jaimie, are you in Florida? I remember those horrid winters in the ED. Spoiled in the Icu by comparison. I know hospitals are kind of a PIA about having drinks but maybe they would let you keep something with you to sip as you work? In the ED though I'd take as much time as I could.

I work on a very busy MedSurg/oncology unit. Having enough time to drink and get my Proteins and is a very real concern. For that reason, I am planning to take five weeks off. I also want to make sure that my mental clarity is at an optimum which can be compromised with the low-calorie diet initially.

I can go back earlier if I want/need to or if I feel I can.

I am a labor and delivery nurse and I work 12 hour shifts. I am hoping to be sleeved in January. I can only really afford to take 2 weeks off so I am hoping that is all I will need. But when I go back I will just be hanging with the babies in the nursery for a couple of weeks which is kind of like light duty. Good luck to everyone! :)

Do any of y'all think being a nurse, we know too much and it makes it even scarier?

Yes and no. Sometimes a little knowledge is a dangerous thing. I've participated in the open version of this surgery as a first assist and know it isn't the simple procedure they make it out to be. Lots of vasculature and major organs to deal with. I'd be lying if I said it doesn't scare the crap out of me. I know the complications, although rare, are very real and can be horrible. So maybe the knowledge is scary but it's also an opportunity to stack the deck in our favor, chose a skilled surgeon, and comply with all the pre and post op instruction to reduce the risks of complications. This surgery is a calculated risk to avoid a lifetime of complications from obesity.

I saw my surgeon, Dr Schneider, in Boston, MA yesterday and was cleared for surgery. Surgery date is 2/24. I need to lose 10 lbs before then, and pre op diet starts two weeks prior. I am excited and nervous! 2 months and counting!

I am having my Lapband removed and a gastric sleeve done on 11/21 and I am hoping to only take two weeks off, I'm a Nurses Aide in the Same Day Surgery area of a Hospital. Good Luck!

Did the lapband not work for you. I'm hearing that a lot. How long did you have the lapband?

I also work on a busy med surg/tele. It is very busy. I was told to take at least 3 weeks off not only to recover but to get used to your meal schedule. And still no heavy lifting for 4 to 6 wks.

I'll be 7 wks out monday and 34 lbs down woohoo! I went back to work after 3 wks. No problems at all. Never had thw tired drained feeling, never had gas pains. My biggest problem was getting fluids and Protein in. Then at about 5 wks, no more problems with that. My only blip was my iv infiltrated on 3rd day in hospital. I was going to be released so they never did start another one and I had an allergic reaction to something. Not sure what because I've never taken alot of meds and took 4 new meds while in hospital, go figure! Overall I'm happy and couldn't feel better!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
