Hello ladies. I had mine at Memorial Hermann Memorial City in May 2012. And, I just discovered this site. I sure wish I had known sooner.

Krenea...yes I had RNY by pass. I will be 5 weeks post op tomorrow. Best decision I've ever made. My first nursing job was as a post op surgical nurse and I used to take care of patients who had the procedure. It's come a long ways since then. Laparoscopic is one of the advances. Back then everything was done open. If I could give one piece of advice...follow the drs orders to the letter. There's a reason for the instructions. Don't advance your diet until you're supposed to. I took care of patients who were admitted back due to complications and 8 out of 10 were because they didn't follow the instructions they were given. And don't give in to head hunger. It will pass...I promise.

Mickie0130... Thank you so much for that advice! 5 weeks, congratulations. Where you nervous? How did you overcome the nerves? How long were you out from your job?

I had the rny may 30, 2012. It was laparoscopic and I did great. Mine wasn't to lose weight even though that's a plus. I had a stomach stapling procedure back in 1985 and my stomach had created a fistula and I kept being sick. Nearly 5 years later and I'm very happy I had it done. I hope you have great results also.

Krenea...sorry for the late reply. No I wasn't nervous. I was excited to get a new lease on life and to start feeling better. I'm down 50 pounds now and I feel so much better than I did. I have no regrets. I have my six week post op check up this week. Little nervous about my diet being advanced but I'll do fine I think. I was off work for 4 weeks. First two weeks were kinda rough and my energy level was low. Taking care of patients is physically demanding so I wanted to be feeling as good as I could when I went back. First week was tough but it's much easier now. [emoji846]

Mickie0130,
I understand it gets busy, no need for an apology. Thank you for sharing with me. I start my pre op diet on Thursday which I have to be on for 2 weeks, then it's surgery day! I work in a clinical setting, I do mental health as a social worker so not as physically demanding for me. I'm thinking I'll be out of work for 2-3 weeks. Congratulations on your 50lb weight loss, that's amazing!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
