I'm pre-op & I start the full liquid diet on Tuesday. Today, I felt like eating a little chips & salsa and ended up mowing through (almost) a full bag of chips because I kept thinking "Oh man, it's going to be a long time before I get to eat these again!!" I kind of felt like a crazy woman. (Well, crazier than normal). I made myself very uncomfortable and felt guilty as hell.

I feel confident that I'm ready for this surgery and I'm making the right decision. Maybe that's why this took me by surprise. I have less than two weeks until surgery and I keep waffling between excitement, fear, and disbelief (in the sense that I'll actually lose weight after surgery). Sort of like it happens for everyone else, but somehow my body will be able to resist the surgery.

Has anyone else experienced this stuff?

Yup, most of us, lol! So you're no crazier than the rest of us ;-)

How you feel is normal. You know all of the theory of what's going to happen with surgery in practical terms but you don't really know what it's going to be llike emotionally. You don't really understand what your new life will be like because you can only judge it in terms of your current life and what has happened so far.

But it will be so different. Hard to explain and while there will be hard times - getting used to your sleeve in the early days, the head hunger, moments of regret, losing hair, trying to get in your Protein and Water - there will be happiness, amazement and the discovery of a new you as you lose weight.

And you will lose weight. Do as you are asked and between you and your sleeve, you will do great things. We all get scared and unsure. We self-sabotage in the run up to surgery because, as in my case, I had lost confidence in my ability to be successful in anything weight related.

All you do is take it a day at a time, dont bea yourself up, stay focussed and get back on the plan tomorrow. Good luck, you can do it!

Thanks, Indigo! :-)

I haven't blown the plan since it doesn't start till Tuesday, but still...the behavior took me by surprise. And to be honest I am more than a little freaked about how I'm going to handle the liquid diet when it starts. I just keep reminding myself that it's only for a week...and I can do anything for a week.

I'm actually in the process of writing a letter to myself that I can read whenever I have a meltdown, but I guess I didn't get it done fast enough. LOL

Thats very normal, I think pretty much all of us think that, feel that and do that lol the week before my pre op I gained 4lbs from the O man not having this again for awhile if ever syndrome lol but on my 2 week liquids I lost 12 and I am now 17 days out from surgery and have lost 17lbs!

So enjoy your few treats, get your mind all ready for your pre op, you will do great and you will lose! Good luck to you!

Lol, get writing quickly... You will be surprised once you start the liquid diet, the op will be in sight and you will be focused. And as you say, it's only a week and post op it's likely to be at least a month before you get back on to soft foods.... So use the practice time to get it to the hang of the new eating.

I'm experiencing it right now. My two week pre-op diet starts Tuesday also, but I started implementing restriction and regularly taking in Protein Shakes yesterday. Both nights by dinner time, though, I've made the choice to eat with my family "because I won't get to do this for a while," and I've been a little nuts. I easily eat twice what I would typically eat, then feel like such a failure. I'm not "falling off the wagon" officially, but I certainly see how easy it could be.

I feel the same way and cheated and felt guilty too HotMessPrincess. I am exited and nervous all at the same time. Thank goodness for these forums because when I read posts like Truckerchic then I'm inspired and can't what for my surgery date to come. I get banded on November 26th. It's nice to know that there is support here in these threads and I'm not going at it alone.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
