Hi everyone. My name is Stephanie. I've been lurking around this forum for many weeks now and have finally registered! You have all inspired me with your success stories and the support you offer each other.

I had started looking into the lap band many years ago, but had to wait for my insurance to catch up to the times. They're finally there (so they say) and I have my first consultation tomorrow (March 12). I'm a little nervous, but so excited it's not even funny.

I am curious, though, about the psych and nutritionist visits. Can anyone tell me what to expect for those appointments?

Thanks very much.

Steph

Lucky you that your insurance will cover this! I had to self pay since my ridulously expensive insurance has a total exclusion on WLS. As for all the pre-op visits, just take them one at a time. They are a hassle but no big deal. Get everything the Nut has to offer in paper form so you have it to refer to.

Hi and welcome to LBT! We are glad you decided to officially join us. Like the others said, the psych and nutrition consults are not a big deal at all. Keep us posted on your progress and let us know when you get a date scheduled.

Welcome Stephanie!

Congrats! We've all felt that excitement. It's thrilling to feel you can take your future into your hands!... And you will want to keep that feeling in hand as you go through the process of the tests. You need to comandeer your path. The hardest test to get scheduled was the sleep apnea test. My first appointment was 6 weeks out- that was the best they could do for me. I was devestated. I called the next day and asked for a cancellation, and got an appointment two weeks out. I called again on the third day and got one for the following afternoon! I was never pushy just determined. (call early, 9:00 ish when they first open and are getting cancellations!)

I was able to get all 8 of my tests within one and a half weeks of my first consultation when the doctor approved me for surgery. (I was self pay) And I was able to get the surgery date 4 weeks later!

Good luck. Just ask if you have questions as you proceed.

Hope it all goes great!

I agree with you. Not being a patient person, the more time I have to think, the more nervous I get.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
