tjdorsett 2 Posted November 15, 2013 My surgery date is Nov. 26 and I'm trying to get my house in order and things prepared, dinners in the freezer for family, schedules written for hubby to drive kids, my question is what should I stock up on for me? Apple juice, broth, anything else anyone can suggest? Oh, and I should mention, I live in a rural area. So just running to the store real quick isn't an option for me. We do have a Walmart 20 miles away. I just want to be ready and prepared! Thanks!
Brighteyes 237 Posted November 16, 2013 I was sleeved a little over two weeks ago. Prior to surgery I made a point of eating through all the stuff I wasn't going to be able to eat anymore. So by the time it came to having surgery I had practically had an empty frig and pantry. This has kept all temptation out of my house. I also started experimenting with Protein Shakes to see what worked best for me. Coming home from surgery I had three different Protein powders, four different types of premade shakes, frozen fruit, milk, cocoa, and powdered Peanut Butter. I was warned not to stock up on a lot of anything cause your taste buds and sense of smell will change after surgery. It worked really well to get me through the full liquids stage. 1 Numenow reacted to this
joatsaint 2,814 Posted November 16, 2013 I stocked up on chicken broth, cream of chicken Soup, cream of mushroom Soup, EAS low carb shakes (but I have switched to Premier Protein chocolate shakes), Crysatal Light lemonade, sugar free popsicles and sugar free Jell-O. But don't buy a whole lot of anything. You won't be eating that much the first 2 weeks or longer. And I found that my taste buds changed after surgery. I gave away a case of chicken soup that I couldn't stand (before surgery I loved it).

Guest Sleeved&NotLovinIt Posted November 16, 2013 I was sleeved 11/11/13. Post op I am on 5 days of fluids only before 3 weeks of pureed. Once I was able to drink Clear Liquids then I could add in V8 juice and Tomato juice. Talk about YUM!!! 1 SuperFab reacted to this
VSG AJH 499 Posted November 16, 2013 Here is what I have in my cupboard: whey Protein to add to Water. Orange, berry and lemon flavored. Sweetened with Stevia. MindiJean -- what brand of Protein is this? I regularly use stevia and tolerate it well, but other sweeteners make me sick. I've tried the J. Robb whey protein sweetened with stevia, but I had the J. Robb egg white protein that also had xylitol in it. It wasn't pretty.

And it is HARD to find things with Stevia rather than xylitol, aspartame, sorbitol. This is the drink mix I use. A bit expensive. A bit lower on the protein scale, but great to add to your 64 ounces of Water a day. http://www.drugstore.com/popups/largerphoto/default.asp?pid=373555&catid=314087&size=500&trx=29888&trxp1=373555&trxp2=
