Surgery Was Monday

Recommended Posts

Had VSG Monday morning, came home Wednesday.

So far:

Tuesday: ice chips all day.

Clear liquids Wednesday (Apple juice and broth).

Thursday (yesterday): took most of the day to finish one EAS Protein Shake, had a "New whey 42g Protein shot (also took a couple hours). Also had a

Bottle of Water to sip on all day, and a bit of Jello that evening.

Today: 1/4 oatmeal made w/Apple juice and mixed w/yogurt. More water.

Was beyond thankful when I began passing gas at the hospital Wednesday! Still dealing with gas pressure in my stomach (somewhat painful burps).

I've been walking daily. It helps with the gas and has limbered up my incision points a bit.

Since I began the two week pre-op liquid diet ,through yesterday, almost 20 lbs down.

I had the sleeve Monday 11/11 and everything is making me nauseaus. I keep getting very painful hiccups and the pain Meds won't hardly go down for the nausea either. I've tried 4 different broths and sugar free Jello and Isopure. Isopure is almost instant gag reflex now. Waiting for the sun to shine again...

Is it nausea or just really bag gas pressure that feels like nausea?

Did they have you suck ice chips for a day? We have to remember, the very small stomach sleeve is even smaller because of swelling/inflammation that leaves very little room for even Water. I take unbelievable tiny sips and it runs right down (feels strange to know for certain when something gets to my stomach sleeve and slides through!).

For me, the slight nausea feeling is actually just being "full" and stomach saying STOP (which is exactly what my dietician said it would be like).

But if you are experiencing real nausea, even with itty-bitty sips, you might call your Dr. In a couple of days and check in.

I did suck only ice chips first day and had such bad nausea that they kept me drugged up and were going to make me stay another day. Now I wish I would've stayed longer on the IV because I can't stomach the Meds.

You will get there. Only take pain meds if you are hurting because they can actually make nausea worse. Walk walk walk and sip sip sip! The sun will shine again soon!

That's impressive how fast they let you advance your diet! I had to stay on clears for 2 days, then full liquids for 3 weeks! You are doing great! Did you join the Nov FB page? I'm on there too. :)

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
