Weight Gain After A Fill

Recommended Posts

My first fill was 5 weeks after surgery....my 2nd fill was 4 weeks after that....between my. 1st and 2nd fill, I gained weight.....

After my 2nd fill, things became 50-50, where I was not hungry only fir a few hours between meals...

After my 3rd, and final fill, did I hit the green zone and my hunger-appetite was completely diminished...

That was over 2 years ago and still going as good as ever....easy as can be.

But those first few months, was a very difficult adjustment phase....and everyone reacts differently and comes out on the other end a little differently, IMO from reading posts here.....

thb,

Hello. I didn't know if you were experiencing this personally or if it was just a research q.

But yes, you can technically gain weight post fill. Examples:

1) First few fills may not get you to green. Some people may not feel any restriction at all depending on how aggressive/conservative the doc fills them. As a result, they may struggle with hunger, portions and food choices. Resulting in weight gain

2) Too tight? Than there's the bandster who gets too tight of a fill and either they don't recognize the symptoms or are so #'s focused they deal with it. As a result, this bandster does not eat proper foods to avoid getting stuck. Rather, they eat sliders and justify higher cal foods like milkshakes. And, you can stall or gain weight as a consequence.

Hope this helps :)

I've been losing weight slowly but constantly until my fill 2 weeks ago. I've gained 2 lbs! I would have normally lost 2 lbs! Not much has changed with my diet except I know i am eating less. Guess I need to sit down and figure this out

Tell us more. For example, do you feel restriction with your fills? Are you in the green? How long have you been banded? etc This will help us dive into what may be going on (not fill related) :)

I have gained or lost weight for over 2 years now....I can tell you that 2 lbs means absolutely nothing...that can change constantly throughout the day....

I way myself twice a day, and have found that 5 lb swings over 2-3 days is perfectly normal....and there is no good explanation..it just is....now if I were to start climbing over 5 lbs, I would be concerned...but like I said, for 2 years now it is always within the same 5 pounds.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
