Gallbladder Six Months Out!

Recommended Posts

I'm six months out from having RNY. I've been doing well. Lost a total of 97 lbs and also running 2.6 miles 5x a week. All of a sudden I've been getting sharp constant pains in my upper mid area (pit of my stomach.) Always after I eat and usually much worse during the night (after dinner time)! It would radiate to my right and go towards the back. Doctors say either ulcer or gallbladder. :'( Well yesterday the ultrasound tech said they see what the problem was. Sludge and small stones in the gallbladder. They say they will send the report to my surgeons office. Ugh, really?

I'm sorry you are having problems. On the bright side, just think of how great you will feel once your gallbladder is out. When mine was removed i couldn't believe the difference. A gallbladder that is bad can cause you a lot of different symptoms you aren't even aware of and you will feel great. With all the exercise you are getting you should be able to bounce back quick. Best wishes for a speedy recovery!

I had my GB removed 10 weeks after my RNY surgery. I had a bad attack one day just as you described it and called my surgeon. I had a ultra sound done and then scheduled surgery. He reopened the same incisions he used for the RNY. I never had any symptoms prior to surgery but there were tons of little stones so it was going on for a while just never knew it. I wish I had the GB checked BEFORE RNY surgery because I would have had him do both at the same time.

I knew I had gallstones over a year ago, after a bad attack. My doc wouldn't do both at the same time. Their RNY success and lack of complications hinges on spending as little time as possible under anethesia - they said complications rise dramatically combining procedures and being under longer. My RNY was six months ago, my gallbladder comes out in two weeks. At least my deductible is already paid. And surgery should be easier because I weigh SO MUCH less now! :-)

Update::

I went to the ER over the weekend in a lot of pain. My gallbladder had to be removed and in surgery they discovered a bowel obstruction. No wonder why I was in a lot of pain. Ugh... Very sore, but resting

      Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

        Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

        Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
