The only way I could manage it was with hot cocoa. I found one with 20 calories and 4g of sugar, it's a nestle fat free one. I make the hot coca and throw the unflavored Protein in. I'm still on Clear liquids so it's not perfect but if it's the only way I can manage then I'm good with it!

Okay I am one week out and having so many emotions. Plus I have picked up a cold. I am trying to sleep 8-9 hrs a night getting my fluids in, Proteins. I guess I am just scared I read so many people that hurt all the time when they eat. I cried a lot last it and today have been down. I keep telling myself its only been one week. I have no problems with drinking..gas is no more.. I guess I am just worrying when I read about all this throwing up.

hang in there, friend! It will get better. There may be medical help for your nausea -- ask the MD.

And there are a LOT of threads about the emotions that follow the sleeve... That is normal as well.

Hang in there...

Sorry..add that to the milk and I can get 12+23=35. Or more. Now I have figured another thing out, I really want to take the opurity. Bariatric vitamins..but they are nasty. Chopped it up and it is now in a plain glass of skim milk!! I can drink it!! Yay!! This is my first week finishing Clear Liquids, now I am onto full. I am down 12.6 lbs. incredible!! No wonder I have cried so much toward the end of the week!

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
