I Am Of A Certain Age...

Recommended Posts

Evidentially when you reach a certain age the medical community thinks it's a good idea to subject their patients to a colonoscopy. I get it so I scheduled my appointment a few weeks ago for tomorrow. What I didn't do was pay close attention to the fact that I had to be on Clear liquids all of today and at 3 pm start drinking concoctions which will "clean me out".

So today I am reminding myself of the fact that I am a successful lapband patient. 3 years ago I was on liquids for 2 weeks pre op and Clear Liquids for a week post op. I CAN do this!!

Oh goodness, I don't look forward to that!

It's funny, isn't it? How we move on and forget the post op diet so when something comes up that requires liquids again we're all bent about it? LOL! I've had to go on liquids for a day a couple times over the last year for medical tests and every time I become this whining, cranky baby.

. Oh I hear ya Mis.... I am not very fun to be around at work today. Lol. However my coworker just brought me some chicken broth from the deli on the corner so I am happy.,. For awhile. Lol

Hi there, after putting off the colonoscopy for two years decided I'd better go do it before I got the band. That was sort of like a pre-pre-op diet! And now I don't have to go back for ten more years. Phew. In a way it calmed my anxiety about having a hospital procedure so when I went in for the band just over two weeks later I felt like I knew my way around a bit. Hope it all goes well -- no fun, but early detection blah, blah, blah. And the three more pounds to go....um, going, going, gone!

Yes are't those fun! I had one done in January and the clear diet wasn't too bad, it was trying to dring the nasty concoction that I had a real hard time keeping down. At least I don't have to go through it again for several years and maybe by that time they will have developed a safe pill.

My PCP wants me to have both a colonoscopy and a long needed visit to the gynecologist. I put off both for a while just because they are not the most pleasant things to go through and then when the pain in my hips/knees got really bad, I couldn't get in the correct positions for either type of exam. Will have to revisit both of these next year once the hips have healed. I'm still newly recuperating from the hip replacements and I'm sure I'll need to wait for a while but I know I can't/shouldn't put off these visits much longer.

I survived.... But the prep wasn't any fun! But the test itself is a breeze since I slept through it. Lol. I got the all clear but do have beginning signs of a colon that needs more Fiber. My dr said I might want to consider going back to when I was first banded and add Benefiber back into my diet.... It's always something but that's an easy fix.

Its a walk in the park. WE all over react to the procedure. A little vercid drug to calm you down and next thing you are in recovery remembering nothing. Drinking the stuff to clean you out if the bad stuff.

They pick on age 50 or so to do the first. Depending if they find something, you won't have to do another one for many years unless cancer runs in your family.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
