The Weight Yo Yo

Recommended Posts

I haven't been eating great but not horribly either. I am 2 days away from regular food graduation. I have lost 37 lbs and lost 4 inches which I am really happy about. I think that because my food options were limited (soft foods) and my body is ready for real food, I have been eating whatever I can find. My weight has been stable for the last week and all of a sudden I went up 1 lb. I know this is nothing and I am probably fine and will be better when I get to real food. I can't get out of my own head though. I am so nervous though. Any words of wisdom?

I'm on full liquids and the new foods I've been allowed to add in are very much carb in nature. While overall a pound up or down doesn't seem like something to stress over, maybe you could make a concerted effort to eat really "clean" for the next few days and see how that goes. tuna salad, well shredded chicken salad, that kind of thing?

When I started soft foods I was so thankful to have real food. Friday is my graduation day to any food. It comes to a point when you are soooo sick of chicken, turkey and tuna. I am craving a salad! Lol when have you heard that lol. Good luck with your puréed foods :). It goes by quickly.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
