Too Fat To Run For President?

FYI, I don't care about your political views, I posted this because Christie is a bander and because of Palin's comment. Please don't turn this into a political flamewar, that isn't what this forum is about.

I don't think weight should play a factor in being able to run for President especially if you have no health related symptoms. Should Christie run I would like to think he would be judged on his politcal views and not his appearance. I do agree with Palin though that women are scrutinized more then men and it's not fair. It is about the only thing Palin and I agree on.

A person could be extremely overweight and still be in perfect health. In fact I am one of them. At my highest weight of 488lbs I had absolutely no weight related health issues.

If d**k Chenney can be vice president with a ticking time bomb for a heart, then Chris Christie can be president despite being obese.

EDIT: omg, this is the second post where it edited the name D-i-c-k in my posts! It's giving me a complex! LMAO!!

Americans are more into looks than intelligence that is obvious. Hillary will not be judged because she is a overweight older woman but Christie will because he's overweight man.. it's all a political game .. I have seen post from people who Judge Hillary for her haggard looks but not her weight.. Chrisite was very brave to make it public that he had WLS and I only wish him the most success with that.. We are still a long way from election time and lots of things can change before then..

ahhaah Carolina ahahhah

I think the President's health could be factored in, but if that's the case, than everything from age, risk factors based on race, family history, habits (ie eating, smoking, hazardous recreational activities) would all be put under the microscope. Reality is, you are dealing with probabilities which are never guaranteed. In reality you are talking about a 4-8 yr span. Pretty unlikely being fat for 4-8 yrs will put you in your grave.

Being fat is one of the last acceptable forms of discrimination in my opinion. It's easy to see thus easy to judge. There are just as many thin people who are equally unhealthy (if not more) than obese people, you just can't see it.

I personally am more concerned that he is banded (or has hand any other type of WLS), given how finicky my band can be in dealing with stress, I can only imagine how it would be in that position.

Well, we voted Taft in and he was huge! I personally think his weight is not a problem. He can do something about obese!

I commend Chris Christie for doing something about his weight and getting his band. I do tend to question his timing... Just a bit... ;) But I don't live in his head, his life, his decision making process. Physically, yes, I do believe that Christie could do the job.

Taft along with many others was President back in a time before the media frenzy and television. I do wonder at times if FDR ever would've become President if there was T.V. back then.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
