Hello;

I have some questions about having a slip. I had the band since Sep 04 and lost a total of 65lbs. I have never felt restricted and have a fill of 5cc in a 10 cc band. I followed the Doctors program to a tee but about 6/7 months ago I started to regain weight and noticed I was eating more. I went back to my Surgeon and he did a quick upper gi and told me not to drink alot so he could see things better. He then told me everything is in place and not to worry. Well since then the Surgeon has left the state and is practicing in another state. I have regained about 35lbs now and looking for ideas on whats wrong and what to do about it and also a new Doctor in the Miami Fl area. Thanks

It is my understanding from reading on here, that 5cc, in a 10cc. band is not much of a fill---maybe it is time for more---so that you can try to get some restriction.

Someone on here compared the band to a new car. You bought the car---now you have to buy gas to make the car work. You having the band without having a proper fill, makes the band a moot point.

Have you found a new Dr. since yours moved? Seems to me that would be the first step to finding some answers.

Good Luck!

Kat

Thanks for the info from both of you, the funny thing is that before my doctor left he told me that I did not have any more space for anymore fills. I am still searching for a new doctor but the fill info from my previous doctor threw me for a loop. Thanks

Go to FillCentersUSA.com. I believe there is at least one fill center in the S. FLA area. Are you able to get all of your medical records from the doc who did your surgery? I'm sure that would be helpful to any future practitioners in figuring out where to go from here. Are you sure you have a 10cc band and not a 10cm band which would be full at around 5cc of Fluid? Maybe that is the difference. But, I'd definitely get the chart from your surgeon so you can know better what you are dealing with.

good luck!

You are right, I did have a 10cm not 10cc Inamed band. So if I am at the limit then something else is wrong. I don't have any of the symptoms that others have described as far as slippage. I will check out the link and see what I can find. thanks

I am not sure how many cc's a 10cm band can relly hold but I do know that I was told by my fill nurse that a 10cc band can be filled to triple capacity before it will actually burst (not that anyone would need that much), I would assume that then a 10cm/4cc band can probably hold a lot more than you currently have should you be one of the rare people who need it with that much fill. Everyone is different, but if you don't have restriction and your surgeon won't fill you anymore than seek a second opinion!

Slipped band's can go one of two ways. The most common is for it to cause further restrictionw here u can't get anything down, but from what i understand it can slip down which would mean u'd gain weight and feel no restriction.

Search these forums i think i've seen posts regarding slipped bands where ppl don't get restriction......i'd also get a new surgeon and second opinion. Good luck either way.

      I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

      Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
      1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

        All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
