Second Guessing Myself, Maybe I Don't Need Surgery, Or Maybe I Am Just Freaking Out!

Recommended Posts

My surgery is next tuesday it is day blah blah of the pre op diet. I am doing it! I have way more will power than I thought. Since beginning this whole experience back in June I have drastically changed my diet and exercise and I have lost 35 pounds. I have never done that before. Maybe I can di this on my own. Or may be I freaking the heck out! I have had many surgeries before and it was different because there were not optional. This time I am driving myself crazy second guessing myself.

You have to ask yourselves a few questions.

How old are you?

How long have you been overweight?

How many times have you succeeded and then put weight back on and some?

Do you have co-morbidities?

Are you doing this because your health is at risk?

Is this something you have discussed long term with your GP that knows your history?

I only say this as it is a life time surgery it is not something to be taken lightly (not suggesting you are), it's this something you can commit to for life? I am supportive of anyone taking up this surgery as it was my only other option. But I also support making a completely informed decision. At the end of the day only you can answer honestly all of these questions and I suggest that you speak with your Dr openly and honestly or someone close to you that you can be open and honest with or the psych at your clinic. I don't regret mine, as I said I had literally done everything else, but it is not an easy quick fix it is a tool to help you to make a lifetime change. Not trying to sway you either way because each of us has our reasons, and our history. Good luck either way you choose, everyone here is very supportive and encouraging along the journey. Many people on this site can answer from their own experience but only you know if it is right for you.

I hope you know that we all want you to succeed no matter which path you take. And if you can lose the weight and keep it off without surgery, DON'T have surgery!

And STILL stay on this forum, OK???

I am 42 and I have always been overweight as an adult. I have lost weight a few times. I lost the most when I had my stroke 65 lbs I was not trying then I was very ill and was not at all interested in food, I also had trouble with swallowing. I have never stuck with like now though and I have never lost this much weight on purpose. I would never have thought that I could have stopped drinking pop and eating candy and other junk and I don't even want most of it any more. I exercise alot more thanI ever have but not as much as I should. I don't know maybe I am just getting scared.

I completely understand. I feel the same way. My thoughts go back and forth all day long. Wake up positive them it's downhill from there. Should I do this? Can I really succeed on my own? Have I just been lazy? Then I go back to I have tried a million times. I just want to stop thinking about it. It is so frustrating. We will all support you either way and just know that you are not alone in your thoughts and concerns.
