Where is everyone's port site?

Recommended Posts

I don't know if this has been asked before since I am new here. Before I had surgery, everyone I knew that had lap band had the port somewhere in their abdomen, usually off to the side.

When I went in for surgery, the surgeon told me the port would be placed in the dead center right under my sternum. The bad thing about it, is during the healing process, the bottom of my bra was sometimes rubbing it. Also, when I sit, I have a "roll" there which was putting constant pressure on the site. So, that wasn't fun. He told me that the port is less likely to flip there, but I think it is too high up and causes unnecessary discomfort during the healing process. (Although, I realize the port site causes the most discomfort for everyone)

So, I guess what I really want to know is the different places they place the ports and what everyone thinks about it?

Mine is just about 3 inches to the left of the bottom of my sternum.

hey there. pardon my ignorance but I am a pre bander my question is simple I almost feel dumb asking but here goes... when you say you can feel it you mean when you are feeling for it? has anyone got skinny enough for it to be seen? ... it seems dumb to ask but I don't know and I gotta ask not that it would make that big of a diffrence either way. I don;t have a choice I have to do this

My port can be felt by touch when I actually feel for it. The docs told me that no matter how much weight you lose, you shouldn't be able to see it. But, I highly doubt that, at least in my case.

When I am lying down, my port is lying flat like it should be. When I stand, the upper part of the port tilts outward. I think I can tell it is kind of jutting out when I look in the mirror. But, with the extra weight, it is hard to tell right now. I think when I lose more weight, it may be able to be seen. The thought of that doesn't really bother me though. I would rather have on little spot on my abdomen poking out that the whole damn thing. :)

yes they have a lower profile port that people sometimes switch to when they have plastic surgery after reaching goal. I felt a woman's port who was at goaland she was really thin. Her's was center right below the sternum. It did stick out a tiny bit but not enough that anyone would notice unless they were looking for it, and hers was not the low profile one. As for where mine is, it is my right side between my rib cage and my waist.

There was a girl who looked like she had lost quite a bit of weight in the clinic getting her port redone or moved or something when I was there.

Mine's on the bottom, far left. I have an incision mark right where the bottom of where my bra goes in the middle, but it's not the port.

My port is upper center. It was close to the bra line for me, but as I lose weight it is lower and very comfortable.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
