Can You Really Just "get Back On The Wagon"?

Recommended Posts

Ve had some pretty good success with weight loss since my surgery in July. 77lbs down in 4 months! But I've been in this horrible stall for 4 weeks, which has led me to fall into some old eating habits the past week or 2. Too many carbs, too many bad foods. I've still been around 900-1100 calories, but not good calories. Is it just as simple as "getting back on the wagon"? Have I stretched my stomach? Done irreversible damage? I've consumed Pasta, diet soda, and even some sweets. I was doing so well and not even craving the crappy stuff, but once I took a bite, all the cravings came flooding back.

Well I wouldn't say its easy to get back on it.... But it is possible! Your sleeve is still there :) You just need to start a new day and go back to basics, dense Protein and veg.

Kick the crap food cold turkey (which is good Protein by the way :P) and stay strong, because the first couple of days kicking carbs is not fun.

I doubt that you've done "damage" but know that at this point (after six months) you need to step up the mental game a bit.

Loss gets slower and capacity naturally increases a bit.

Jessica I don't know how much u have to lose but my biggest regret is losing 75 pounds in the begining and slacking off. Now I am two years out and its much harder to lose. At 4 months out u absolutely can get back on the wagon. Tell yourself ok vacation over time to buckle down again. I agree with Laura pick a day. And go cold turkey. Start to track everything u eat. Allow yourself the occasional treat or carb thing but do count it. Don't miss this great window where your body is used to losing and it will keep coming off. Remember why u started this and where u want to be. Get back on the wagon you will thank yourself later

Amen to Madam Laura.

You have let your fat brain use the stall to fall back to your fat behavior.

But you can get on the wagon if you want to. Do you?

Go back to day one and start over and stay on the program. Your fat brain will be watching, and want's you to fail. FIGHT!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
