Well, the results of my sleep study are in and I have borderline mild/moderate sleep apnea. I am not really surprised, and I keep telling myself that this is one more thing to help get me approved through insurance. But why am I so sad about it? I feel so disappointed in myself.

Will you be getting a cpap machine? It is never fun to get a diagnoses even if we really suspect it already. HAng in there.

For me it was an "AHA" moment. My sleep apnea explained so many things I had been struggling with over the years - forming and keeping my memories, fatigue durng the day, Migraines, and a general inability to concentrate on tasks. My CPAP machine wasn't a cure all, but I have been able to alleviate many of the symptoms I suffered for years. Since losing 70 lbs my pressure has decreased, and I'm even on an autopap now. Hopefully soon I won't need it at all.

Don't feel down about yourself. This is a treatable condition, and more than likely successful weightloss will eliminate it. Good luck and use your cpap!

Thanks, that makes me feel a little better. I will get my cpap on Thursday. Maybe it will help me sleep better. We shall see

I've been on my cpap for 6 months now, and I must admit, I feel so much better. I'm not so sleepy during the day now. I have moderate apnea, but was hoping it was severe my insurance states it must be severe to count as a comorbidity. My surgeon's office submitted all my paperwork yesterday though, so we'll see how it goes. I'm trying not to let myself get excited just yet.

The only problem I have with my cpap is when I have nasal congestion. I can't use it when I can't breathe through my nose!

Can't you be fitted for a face mask? The one they put on me covered both my nose and mouth.

I started out with that type, but it kept leaking and I spent most of my nights trying to adjust it instead of sleeping. The one I have now (Wisp), leaks a lot less, especially when I keep it clean. When I've had my mask for 10 months, my insurance will pay for another mask, and I might try a different full face mask. I've come to realize just how important a good sleep makes me feel.

My doctors office has several types of masks they will let me borrow before I buy one. During my sleep study I used the nose only mask which they recommend because it is lighter and doesn't leak as much when you move.

But today I have a cold and am really congested, so I can see the benefit of using one of those as well.

The more I get used to the idea of needing a cpap the less sad I am. I really hope this helps me to not feel so tired all of the time!

Sucks for me. I have a deviated septum from having a broken nose as a child so I tend to be a mouth breather when I sleep. Full face mask for this girl. Lol

Luckyme2g, I feel your pain! I just found out I had it as well last week and I have my 2nd sleep study on the 19th. I'm starting to notice little things too now that I've been diagnosed with it. I just want to not feel tired and not get the Migraines anymore! Hope things get better for you once you get your cpap!

I was diagnosed with severe sleep apnea in November 2012. I one of the special people that the Regular cpap machine fooled my brain into not telling my body to breath, so I use a BiPap machine that breaths for me until my body kicks in. I was sleeved on 10/14/12, I'm down 30 lbs post op and 96 lbs total since May. I have an appointment with the sleep Center this Friday and am hoping to hear some great news about scaling back on the use of the BiPap machine.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
