Dx With Pcos, Have Been Trying For 15 Years After My First Born. Anyone With Infertility Issues Become Pregnant After Surgery? Details Please

Recommended Posts

I had one child in '98 about a year off the Depo shot. Since then I've had hormone issues and what seems to be a never ending period that can last anywhere from 3 days up to 8 months at one time. It's the worst because my husband and I always wanted another after our first.

Some say they got pregnant surprisingly, unexpectedly and immediately after surgery...any good stories to share?? I'd like some glimmer of hope...

Thanks in advance!!

I had infertility issues for over 11 years of being married , I have several infertility treatments , due to hormonal imbalances and pcos , I was told it would be hard for me to get pregnant . I went in for surgery on 1/18/12 hoping this would be my last option. :( I got pregnant 7 months later , after losing 75+ pound . Sadly I miscarried at 9wks , but I had not given up hope , a month later I was pregnant again which I have now given birth to 4 months ago. I am glad to say that I'm truly blessed after 11 years of trying.

I have one child too that is now 15, I am wondering how this will all work out for me too. I have endometriosis, adenomyosis, and pcos so I understand your pain with the never ending bleeding and pain. My husband and I tried prior to me having my sleeve 10/24/12, and now we are in transition in trying to conceive. The doctors feel that it will be easier because of the weight loss, considering I’ve had a child before, but I am still very nervous about having a successful pregnancy. The doctor took about 8 tubes of blood when i went in for my pre-pregnancy appointment; I'm just hoping that none of hormones levels are off so much that would keep us from getting our green light in January.

When do you plan on trying for another child?

I hope to be able to have the patience to wait at least 1 year but I might start trying after 8 months or so. I just want to know if its possible and if I can, I will have it and then continue with my losing goals. I need to get that out the way soon...I'm getting up there in age and don't wanna push my luck or wait until I reach my goal and then retract all my hard work. Good luck to you...

I have a 14yr old but could never get pregnant after him. I've tried fertility meds & 2 rounds of Ivf with no success. I had RNY on 1/28/13 and had my son 10/28/13. I got pregnant 17 days post op!

Wow, I can't wait to have that success story to tell!!

My niece had bypass in april this year and had pcos. After 15 years of not getting pregnant she is now about 8 weeks pregnant! I found out a day before her that I'm pregnant too at 6 months post-op from the sleeve. I'm 42 and had been trying since my last daughter was born in 2011.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
