I Need A Friend :(

Recommended Posts

I'd really like to find a friend I csn talk to. I live in Reno, Nevada and I am hoping to meet some people I can call friends. I really have none and with the emotional toll this surgery has taken on me I think it would help me a lot. Thanks.

It's ok. I'm not in the Nevada area but friendship knows no distance. I was sleeved at the end of October '13 and I went through the same emotions. I was dizzy all the time and since I had not told most of my friends and family, I had little support. The depression stage lasts only for a moment till your pjs begins to look buggy on you. It's only been 2 weeks but yesterday, 2 of my friends remarked that they could see my neck! Praise God. Surround yourself with positive people and stick to your post-op directive from your doctor. You will be ok, we're all here just to hold your hand ( virtually).

I also had sleeve end of October. The concept of head hunger really makes sense for me and comes and goes. Try to find 1-2 people who can really support you. Thank God for my husband. He's been wonderful.

Hi Crissy, hang in there. You do have lots of friends and they are all on this forum. We are here 23-7. there may even be some in Nevada. Look in the room for Nevada and you may find someone close. I have not had my surgery yet but from the many folks I have spoken with, buyers remorse is very common the first month. Once you have healed and you are over the surgery part of this ordeal you will look at this a bit differently. I'm not telling any of my friends about the surgery so I understand the "aloneness" you feel. Even if you had shared this with family and friends they wouldn't understand things like the sleevers would so stick with us to help you get through this. Take one day at a time and envision yourself healthy and energetic at whatever size you want to be. Think about being able to walk up and down stairs without being winded, about having energy to walk 3 miles, or participate in a 5K race. The depression is temporary. You will get through this and you will feel much better. Hope to talk to you soon.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
