Hello to all,I was directed to this site by my doctor who says it is very informative.

I agree with him. After reading through the site I was very impressed and was compelled to write on here.

I was banded on Feb. 07 2007 and weighed 345 LBS pre-op.

I had a complication with internal bleeding after the surgery which required me to stay in the hospital for about 7 day.

I still have the band and went through the tightness feeling and swelling that most have experienced.

sleep was hard to come by as I regurgitated a lot for the first 2 weeks with acid reflux.

sleeping on my right side is still difficult as it brings acid to mouth in the middle of the night.Sleeping on my left side is very good and without any problems. Things have since settled well.

I have the same bad breath people complain about especially when i burp as it smells like rotten eggs :( .Checked with the doctor says it is normal.

Today I am kind of worried that the band has slipped since i have been coughing a lot from having the flu.

I have been able to eat and drink with very minimal restriction which was difficault yesterday, I guess only time will tell if I have had slipage.

Well guys here is the real number that I think everyone would like to know.

I have lost a total of 38 LBS and now weigh in at 307 LBS.

I havent had a fill yet as my doctor thinks that as long as I keep losing weight it is not required.

He will do the fill when I stop losing weight.

liquid diet for 3 weeks with home made broth made by a very supportive spouse got me through. I can now eat solids.

Will keep posting with results

Sorry for the long narrative.

I am new to this website, but I, too, am hoping to get banded. That is, if my insurance will pay for it. I have already spent $450.00 out of my own pocket for a metabolic test, nutrition counseling, and a very brief visit with the Dr. who will perform the surgery. Next, I sent my medical records to this Dr. and am now waiting to for them to contact my insurance company. I expect to have to fight for the surgery and my even have to accept the gastric bypass if that is the only bariatric surgery my insurance company will pay for. What have some of the rest of you experienced in your efforts to get banded?

TENGAL

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
