My surgery date is Dec. 19th. I am on day 2 of the 2 week pre-op liquid diet and it is a struggle. I am not a fan of the shakes (tried 5 flavors so far). It's more of a consistency thing with me. I'm going to keep messing with how I make them and hope for the best. Also, plan on making some homemade broths too. I would kill for a chicken breast right now. I know I could have one and be fine, but since my surgeon requires a liquid only diet, I am going to stick to the rules. It's tough, especially knowing that so many other people do not have the same requirement and do fine. It's more of a mental thing though. If I "cheat" on this rule, then I'm giving myself permission to "cheat" on other things too. And this needs to be different.

The pre op diet is h*ll, no matter what version you have to do. I had a two shake, one lean and green plan for three weeks. Not awful but tedious as all get out. The first few days were the hardest, then I got into a routine and it got easier. When I wanted to do something srupid, I reminded myself what I was working towards and that the last thing I wanted was to wake up after surgery with no band because my liver was too big because I didn't stay the course. That kept me on track. :D

Hang in there! It's only two weeks. You can do it! :D

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
