Do You Find That You Use A Food Scale Much?

Recommended Posts

I am almost two weeks post op and am getting ready to start soft solids. Much of the information I have received from surgeon and nutritionist has things listed in ounces. I have never used a food scale and wondering if it is worth the investment? Also, if so, any certain one you would recommend?

Yes it's worth it.

One of the things I recommend to newbies is to measure and weigh their food so that you get acquainted with how much x ounces really is, or what 1 cup looks like on your plate. After some practice you'll be able to eyeball these portions which will help you regulate Portion Control in the future.

Any scale will do, just make sure the surface is large enough to hold a plate or bowl easily (and be sure to zero out your plate/bowl).

Even 4 years out I occasionally use the scale when I try a new food and need to learn how much x grams looks like so I don't overdo calories

Hope this helps

yes, 17 months post op, and i weigh/measure and prepare my meals (meats/veggies/fruits) by using a scale..4oz is 4 oz.....sometimes if you wing it, it maybe more oz than you realize....def a good way to get control of your portion allotment..i highly recommend it..(hub and myself use it just about everyday).

Assuming you would weigh it once it's cooked?

Im 7 1/2 weeks out of surgery and I still use my scale from all of my failed weight watchers attempts....love a scale that switches between ounces and grams. I always weigh my dinner Protein. My eyes are still (and will always be now) much bigger than my stomach.

Good luck to you!

I have a food scale (don't use it right now but before surgery I did) and I love it! I measure my food by medicine cups still. Each one is roughly 1 oz. Once I get to eating regular meals I will go back to my scale though.

I used one for the first 2-3 months after surgery, until my band took charge a lot of things for me....things I could never do successfully before surgery...

I have been on so many diets that we have always had a food scale at the ready..a real nice digital one.....all the diets I have ever been on called for measuring and counting...thank heaven I'm past that!!!

But it has not always the case with the band,,,especially just starting out and still learning, and still getting adjustments...

Can't live without the scale. Even ten months out I can take too much if I don't weigh it out first.

8 months out and I still use it for meats. I paid less than $20 for it at costco and it's been great. I think it's worth the investment!

For most of us, I good food scale, measuring cups and spoons are vital to our success. After 8 months, my eyes are still bigger than my what my body needs.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
