Recommended Posts

I went back to my follow up appointment with my surgeon last week. He said that after a lot of research he encouraged me to drink with my meals!!

I've done the research and from the research on the satiety response I'll stick with not drinking as taught. Show me the research, and if drinking helps control hungry, then ok...

I don't have room to drink with my meals. I don't even miss drinking with meals anymore. Sticking with my 30 minute delay.

What your Dr. tells you to do is okay,, If you want to follow his advice that is good for you.. I will continue to follow my Dr's advice which is to wait to drink 30-45 minutes after I eat.. It has worked for me so far and frankly I don't miss drinking while I eat..

Well for starters, I haven't had any issues with eating food, but Water is hard. I have a hard time hitting my goal of 64oz a day. He told me that after his research, he has taken the restriction out of his book. He said that the water pushes the food into the intestines and that is the secret. I have noticed a huge difference. I actually feel full longer. It has taken away the hunger that I was feeling in between. Not drinking didn't really bother me but I am all for it. Since drinking with my meals, I have met my Fluid target. Just thought I'd share.

I do not eat with meals, I wait 30 minutes, at least, as instructed.

I DO drink coffee when I'm eating a piece of pumpkin bread or a scone at Starbucks. We always split a piece, and I have to be careful or it will be uncomfortable. Half a piece is fine with coffee, but any more than a half, it doesn't feel good.

I drink with something like this because in MY mind, I figure the quicker I push it out of my tummy, the better! LoL

Eating and drinking is my biggest concern about being sleeved. I have always been a Water guzzler, so I keep telling myself to start practicing this but I forget so I will drink 20oz in no time - refill and do it again. At work typically have about eighty oz

I know that I will not be able to do this anymore after i am sleeved.

Never heard of being encouraged to drink with your meals after the sleeve, but follow what your doctor says I guess. I was fearful of the whole not drink 30 mins before or after eating, not knowing how hard it would or wouldn't be but I'm doing fine with it. When you drink you are forcing the food down which is stretching, which is not good.

Current weight:182

I can't remember how far out I was when all of a sudden I could drink a full glass of Water normally.....not sip, sip, sip....but it does happen. Drinking while I'm eating, I thought would be HUGE, but it is totally a non-issue. I use to drink two - four glasses of ice tea with dinner. I tried to practice prior to surgery, and it was soooo hard. I'd have never guessed it would be so simple.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
