This Probably Sounds Silly But...

Recommended Posts

I'm scheduled for surgery on 12/16. I feel pretty comfortable with everything but there's something just eating at me (no pun intended).

I've been overweight/obese since puberty. The smallest size I remember being is a 16. I have no idea what I look like at a "normal" weight and quite frankly it's a little scary. And for some reason it's bothering me more the closer I get to surgery. The rational side of me says what you're doing is sooooo good - help with health issues, have more energy, etc. but I almost feel like I'm losing a sense if self if that makes any sense,

Just wondering if other folks felt like this

no idea what I look like at a "normal" weigh

In my case i never thought about how i would look

i just wanted to lower my weight, slowly but steadily

it also "crept" on me, the weight loss and change in my appearance

i was over concentrating on the scale, didn't really look at myself

one day i got out of the shower and stared in the mirror :o

i knew it was me - but boy oh boy :o

the first thing i noticed, i turned around and realized my rear end was GONE :D

don't worry or think too much about what you will look like as time passes

just enjoy the ride

good luck next month :)

I will tell you that it certainly is a new journey to begin. I too have never been this thin in my entire life(just once I guess on my way up). It really is a mental adjustment to see yourself so thin and in my case wearing a size 6, I still can't believe it. I guess as time goes on it will become my new norm but I think I still feel inside like the old fat me sometimes................but I love my new thin self!! Surgery has been life changing for me and it will be for you too!!

All the best

I too have been overweight since I was a little kid. Honestly it worried me too, and I have only lost 29lbs so far. I just think about the future and how good I am going to feel. My mom had gastric bypass in 2001, and it was weird to see her small but we all got used to it and I cannot remember her heavy so it will be hard at first but then it will fade.

I went right from baby clothes to a misses size 14 -- then up from there. After 40 years of yo-yo dieting, even at my lowest weight, I was never under a size 14 or under 200 lbs.

Now, nearly 6 months after my sleeve surgery, I am under 200 lbs and in a size 12! And I'm staring down a size 10. It's pretty freaking scary. I don't know who is looking back at me in the mirror sometimes. 'Cause it's not like I have ever seen that person before. Some sleevers were once slim, then gained weight. But some of us were never thin, or even normal weight. So it's a whole new world for us! And it's an exciting discovery. Wouldn't trade this ride for the world.

Keep moving forward. Good luck on your journey. It's going to be amazing!

My surgery is scheduled for 12/10. I know exactly how you feel. I keep thinking I am going to always have the "fat girl" mentality even when I lose the weight. We are all going through this and this page is here so we can support each other.

I know exactly what your all mean!! I haven't been a normal weight since middle school. I am 4 days post surgery for the sleeve and I am all ready starting to freak out at how fast I'm losing weight (16 pounds since DOS)! I don't know what it will be like to be thin. But I'm so excited to see what it is like! Thank you all for being a supportive community to talk these things through!

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
