Dr. C-Advice regarding fill needed

Recommended Posts

<!--StartFragment -->I had my first fill on Feb. 9th. The doctor put in 2.5cc in my 4cc band.

Lately, I've noticed that I get "stuck" quite often in the afternoon when I eat lunch (I eat oatmeal for breakfast). I've even had to PB a few times.

Yet, at dinner I don't seem to have any restriction. For instance, tonight I was able to eat a pretty large salad and spaghetti (well-cooked, angel hair with sauce).

I don't know if I should get another fill or not. I'm really concerned about the amount I can eat, yet at the same time I get the stuck feeling more often. And now I'm really scared about pouch packing since I've read the posts in this section.

I need advice please.

This is common to be much looser as the day progresses. This makes it tough as you really have to watch how you eat and may not be able to get much solid food down until dinner. You might go over to my web site and post a message for my banded dietitian on the forum there, she probably has some good tips.

I think all surgeons who are experienced with the lap band have had some port leaks, it is a recognized complication. You should be able to get back on track when the leak is fixed, there is no way to be successful with a band that is leaking it's like trying to drive on a flat tire!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
