That stinks. I haven't had surgery yet but my mom has quite a bit of dumping syndrome. So, speaking from her experiences - she sips on Water occasionally and uses a heating pad. My surgeon says to drink flat diet ginger ale if the nausea seems to really be bothering you. Maybe a cool wash cloth as well.

I am really sorry to hear that you are having these problems. I had my surgery 7 months ago and every once in awhile I experience the same issue. I have learned to take a deep breath and try to relax as much as possible during this time. You will have stomach pain, maybe even sweating and rapid heart beats. Try to rethink what you ate that has set your system off. I sometimes ate nothing wrong and for some reason I dumped and I have heard others say the same thing. It could be that your system is just not ready for some the foods that you are eating and drinking. Once you are finished with the dumping it is very important to NOT eat anything for several hours so your pouch has time to relax. I would then make sure that you drink something warm like hot Water with lemon or hot Decaf tea nothing cold. Hot drinks will calm your stomach down even more. If it gets too bad and you dump all the time call your surgeon's office and get some help. Our new systems are so delicate and I am sure things will improve over time. Good luck.

Can you tell me what you are eating and drinking? Are you waiting 30 minutes after you drink to eat and 30 minutes after you eat. What liquids are you drinking? If it keeps up I would call your doctor.

I clearly know what I did wrong - a$$h0le me decided that after 7 NEAR PERFECT months, I could eat something bad for me (carvel ice cream!!! small size) - and learned the hard way. So now I know what dumping feels like - it is THE WORST PANIC ATTACK ever. And I not only did it once, but I did it TWO nights in a row (night 2 was an overabundence of vegtables that had peas carrots and corn in them).

I just needed to know if anything would make it pass faster. Unsure how I even got through it :/

Hi I'd be grateful for some advice as well. I had surgery on nov 6th and had a horrendous dumping episode last night. But I'm worried it was more as it lasted all night long and was excruciatingly painful. I'm on liquids only the only thing I changed was I had a small cup of cream of chicken Soup at 6.30 followed by a small cup of Horlicks light at 8 (I had a small cup of Horlicks light at 5 as well so was confident this had gone down well). The whole episode started just after 9 pm. I have never been as much pain and I've been through child birth with just gas and air. This pain went on in waves all night long. I had not had a bm since before surgery so wonder if this contributed to the pain. I am absolutely terrified of this happening again and just don't know what to do. Currently I'm regretting this whole thing big time! I'm hoping some of you might be able to make me understand where I went wrong and be able to reassure me that this will get better. Thank you so much for readingthis.

Usually dumping happens after high fat or sugar. Sugar can translate into high carb items as well as sugar=carbs.

Tomato Soup has caused some to dump. Check your sugars in every processed food that crosses your lips. And your serving size. Measure or weigh your food.< /p>

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
