Finally banded, and let me say that after reading these forums I thought I knew what to expect. I have had lots of surgery before, but this one hurt me more than any of them. I did not expect that kind of pain, and it still hurts badly today. Other than that the surgery went well, I have a VG band. Loving the broth and Jello. Also, glad that I spent the night at the hospital, I don't know how anyone goes home the same day.

Welcome to Bandland!

And hey - go easy on the Jello. Works for some, but a little rough for others! Dont forget to take small walks as often as possible!

It'll be better before you know it. :) promise!

Did you get Better Than Boullion? It's such a hearty broth. So satisfying. The things that worked for me with the pain were heating pad, walking....and mostly chewable Tylenol. No reason to suffer.......

I was banded on Feb. 27th 2007 at TNEMC and ended up with a hematoma the size of a grapefruit, but now is the size of a tangerine, I also got phneomia 5 days after surgery. I was also curious if anyones stomach was swollen and hurt to sneeze, (it's killing me LOL) my doc. said my body will take care of the hematoma and the antibiotics will take care of the phneomia, but I'm just worring that the swelling won't go away, where the port is. I was just wondering if anyone had any suggestions. O and sometimes I feel choked up when I eat and have not got a fill yet. Please help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:help:

weight before band 211

after band 194 would like to get to 145-150

type 1 diabetic age 37 from Mass cape cod

I'm in good spirits its the swelling and pain, and presure that hurts, I just need to know has everyone felt that!!!!!!!!!! and does it hurt to get a fill??? thanks for all the information I appreciate it very much!!!!!!

Fills are easy. The first time I went for one, I almost gave myself a coronary in the waiting room. I was so nervous about it. Here's exactly what happened.... I had to lie down on a table. She asked if I wanted a pain numbing shot and she said the shot hurts more than the fill. So I didn't get one. She pulled up my shirt and pushed the needle in. It felt like getting a shot, and once the needle was in past the skin, I felt nothing. Then she said I was done! It took mere seconds! Then I stood up against the fluoro machine and drank a tiny cup of barium, and we watched on the machine as the barium went down my throat, hit the restriction, and trickled on through to the rest of my stomach. That was it. She had me drink a bottle of Water in the waiting room to make sure I could get water through it and didn't feel uncomfortable. Bah Dah boom. It's just not a big deal at all.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
