Christina.Rose 287 Posted November 9, 2013 Has it been 20-30 years? Any long term complications with having stomach mostly gone? Any stomach cancer scares?

Kindle 8,667 Posted November 10, 2013 I defer to the above link for the history of the VSG for weight loss purposes. However, people have been getting all or part of their stomachs removed for other reasons (cancer, ulcer) for at least 50-60 years. I looked into these cases when researching getting the sleeve in order to assess long term complications. The biggest findings were Vitamin and mineral deficiencies... B12, folate, Iron, Calcium, and Vitamin D, in particular. So take all your Vitamin supplements and get annual bloodwork. As for increased cancer risk, GERD (a potential post-op complication) can lead to esophageal cancer if uncontrolled/untreated.
