Time To Introduce Myself

Recommended Posts

I'm 26 years old from NYC. My obesity problems began in my teen years and now I'm at my worst. I'm 5'4 and weight 253 pounds. I'm tire of looking at my self and feeling disgusted by what I see. I don't let my husband see me. On Aug of 2012 my mom told me about her friend who got the gastric bypass at ST. Lukes hospital so I decided to make an appointment. On Sep 12 I went for my first visit and seminar. On Oct 17 went for my second visit and submitted all paper work and was scheduled for surgery Dec 2. On Nov 4 all paper work was submitted to insurance and on Nov 6 my surgery was approved. Im so excited and happy this is the best Christmas present.

My friend got her surgery at st. Luke's about 3 years ago! I'm at montifiore in the Bronx. My process seems so slow I wonder if I had chosen a diff doc or insurance if it would have went faster. I have health first and Medicaid, what insurance do you have if you don't mind me asking? And did you have to see a nutritionist?

I have the same insurance healthfirst and Medicaid. When I first went to see Dr.Choi and seeing the nutritionist I was given a list, I went home and made all my appointments in one day. The process seems slow but after going to these appointments, my surgery came quicker than I thought . Trust me it will go faster than you think, just follow up to your appointments, go to every meeting and watch how soon you will receive your date. If ever u need to talk vent or whatever inbox me :)

Good luck to all

How long did it take you to get the list? Because I didn't get a list, they've made an appt for me to see the nut on jan 29th 2 months away! They are so booked and even put me on a waiting list! I'm not trying to rush anything because it will happen sooner or later but I'm just trying to understand my process a lil more, sometimes I feel lost! Lol

When I started the process I had fidelis with medicaid that was in sep. I saw the nutritionist on my first appointment and got the list saw everyone on September saw the phycologist on October and when to my second consultation the same day. Got my surgery date on my second consultation. I switched to metro plus because fidelis requires 6 months of weight in. Metro plus is the best. It became effective Nov 1 on the 4 paper work was submitted and the 6 my surgery was approved

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
