5 Months Weigh In

Recommended Posts

So I went to my doc for my 5 months weigh in after not weighing myself for a month and expecting a huge weight loss. To my greatest disappointment, I found out that I lost only 13lbs in two months. Really! Are you kidding me. I have never been so dedicated to anything in my life like I am now. I eat at least 75% less than what I used to eat or even less. I gave up juice, soda and only drink Water or milk. I eat healthy now compared to before my surgery. I eat apple with Peanut Butter or yogurt with egg whites for Breakfast, baked live chicken(homemade) with broccoli for lunch or Beans, fruits with cheese for supper. For snacks-protein bar, yogurt, carrots, apple or banana but not all at the same time. I still manage to squeeze in 15-20 minutes at the gym on treadmills before picking up my 2kids and the gym doesn't even include the exercises I do with my residents 3xwk, the dancing, the squats and walking the stairs at work from the 8th to the 14th floor. I am doing the best I can for now but why can't I see it on the scale? My doc had the nerve to tell me that I am going to fail cos I only look at the scale instead of on inches lost. Maybe I will make history by being the only sleever with a 50 lb weight loss. I am even planning on going back to school but if I can't loose it now, when else can I? I am 5 months out and lost only 55lbs. Some don't work half as hard and they loose huge amount of weight. Is there something I am missing?

That's all I lose--5-7 lbs a month. I don't know how much you have to lose but I don't think it's that weird. I had 80 to lose to hit goal. I spend half my time stalled and in between I lose a few pounds. And I've had only one day in 3 months where I had maybe 4 bites of carbs I'm trying to avoid. Rest of the time, Protein and veggies. Doing everything by the book.

I think many os us have this experience but don't post. Saying "I lost 13 lbs in 2 months!" Sounds like no big deal on these forums and so we don't post.

But girl! We lost 13 lbs in 2 months! Let's take it and be happy!

I could only read the first and last part of your post because I'm pre-surgery and on a liquid/low fat diet and the food you listed started making me hungry so I popped to the end of your post. LOL

Personally I think losing 50 pounds in 5 months is a BIG accomplishment. And you 'only' lost 13 pounds in 2 months...in my book, that too is good. Maybe you are not losing but with all your exercising you are toning up and gaining muscle.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
