Nov. 26 Surgery Date!

Recommended Posts

Hello. I'm fairly new here, I've posted a couple times and everyone has been so helpful and kind.

I've scheduled my surgery for Nov 26 in TJ Mexico with Dr. Corvala. I had a lap band place in '05 by the same surgeon and had no problems until Oct 2012. I had it replaced with a new band that month and have had nothing but problems since. I'm ready to get it out! I'm excited to be rid off it but very nervous to be sleeved. I never fully lost al. The weight I wanted but I losses some and was happy and maintaining for all those years till the new band (placed here in the US) has caused havoc on my gut!

Anyhow, my new adventure begins soon and I'm looking for any encouragement and advice. Anyone having surgery this month who would like to be a buddy would be nice.

I am 5'5' 225 lbs, 39 yrs

Thanks

Hi, and welcome to the forum. You are in very good hands with Dr. Corvala. I am also a band to sleeve revision, and have been very pleased with the results. My band slipped numerous times, my port flipped and I started having erosion. I couldn't eat anything, even with no fill. You just don't have those kind of issues with the sleeve. Many people have great success with the band, then there are those like us who to look to different solutions. I wish you much luck and look forward to following your progress.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
