I'm officially two weeks post-op as of 11/7/13.

I'm struggling with finding things that are low calorie/low sugar to drink.

I understand Water with crystal light, but I've gotten sick of the taste.

I've also drank my share of zero calorie/sugar sports drinks.< /p>

Any suggestions?

Maybe if you like hot chocolate, there is Swiss Miss Sensible Sweets Diet Hot Cocoa mix for 25 calories per serving.

I've done hot chocolate once or twice, but I'm looking for cooler beverages.

Thank you for input, though. C:

I don't know if these are low calorie but there's Tomato or V-8 juice and skim milk...

I love Sobe Life Water - zero calories and they come in 20 ounce bottles so 2 a day plus tea and plain water helps me reach my water goals. costco has a 12 pack at reasonable price.

Thing is, Water is making me sick.

Both in taste and in my stomach.

I forgot to mention I am 2 weeks and 3 days out so we are almost surgery twins :) LOL Getting the fluids in is definitely one of my bigger struggles.

I've been forcing myself to drink fluids, usually getting around 40 oz a day.

I just would like to get the recommended 64 oz.

Congrats on getting sugery. Hopefully it'll benefit you in the long run, and you'll be happier and healthier as a result. :)

Diluted apple juice....I find it is much easier to drink than plain Water

Can't have apple juice. It causes kidney stones and I can be very prone to them.

Thank you for the suggestion. I appreciate it. ^^

I developed an aversion to regular Water post surgery. For me, the life saver was herbal teas. I have never been a big tea drinker, but the herbal teas are not made from black or green tea leaves, but rather other herbs and spices. I find them to be warming, tummy soothing and all around a great supplement to the sweet cool drinks,

Some of my favorites:

Celestialseasonings - Safari Spice Rooibos Tea

Celestialseasonings - Sleepy Time

Yogi - Get Regular

I like many others too - licorice, several of the rooibos based ones etc.

Aside from Water, the only other thing I drink is Diet Peak Tea (found in the refrigerated section at the store) with a packet of True Lemon. It's delish!

ETA: This is the brand http://www.goldpeaktea.com/Flavors#/diet. The diet tea can be hard to find, but Walmart and Super Target carry it. Kroger is hit or miss.

They have smaller bottles that are not refrigerated, but they have a weird flavor that I don't like.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
