Headaches

Recommended Posts

What does everyone take for headaches? I am almost two weeks post opt and I never thought to ask what I could take that would be safe. Any ideas?

Are you still on liquids? If so, Adult Strength Liquid Tylenol. If regular diet, I break a couple of Tylenol Extra Strength (500 mg.) Caplets in half. Just wash the pieces down well with Water.< /p>

I also take liquid Tylenol, but I have also tried the Excedrin QuickTabs (Acetaminophen & Caffeine)... these disolve quickly on your tongue with a mint flavor, but they do have a bit of an after taste. More convenient to carry then liquid.

Without much restriction, I am able to break a Tylenol tablet in half and take it with a full glass of Water.

I don't know about the rest of you, but tylenol never helps a headache for me, though it is pretty good for fever or muscle pain. Excedrin is my drug of choice for HA. I'm happy to see that the quick tabs are ok, I'll gladly deal with an after taste in exchange for some of the headaches I get.

Hi Marie,

Please explain why Excedrin is not band friendly... Is it because of the caffeine? If not, then I would argue that the QuickTabs are not band friendly because other than Tylenol, the other ingredient is Acetaminophen (Tylenol). And if caffeine is not band friendly, I am in BIG trouble because I am addicted to my cup of coffee each day! :)

Now, I am not sure of the ingredients in regular Excedrin, so maybe that is the issue. Please advise.

Thanks,

Anne, I'm thinking Excedrin could cause problems because it contains Aspirin. Aspirin isn't good for the stomach. I'm not sure about the caffeine in Excedrin. I'm looking @ bottle of extra strength Excedrin. One tablet has 250 mg. tylenol, 250 mg. aspirin, 65 mg. caffeine. I do use it occasionally for arthritis, when I don't hurt bad enough to use the RX Celebrex. I know ibuprofen is hard on the kidneys.:)

OK, so there is a difference in the ingredients of regular Excedrin and the QuickTabs. The QuickTabs do not contain Aspirin, probably due to the fact that they disolve on your tongue and Aspirin would probably cause more of an after taste.

Thanks for the clarification.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
