No More Protein Shakes/smoothies?

Recommended Posts

My good friend who was sleeved in June and has been somewhat slow in weight loss got this same directive. She is to avoid all "sliding" Proteins as well as what we think of as regular sliders, so…no Protein shakes, no yogurt, cottage cheese, etc. Even though they are good Protein sources, the thought is they are not filling her up the way harder Proteins would.

yep, I still do a shake in the morning for breakfast. It's ok with my nutritionist though. I guess everyone's requirements and "ok" foods are kind of all over the place. Actually, I am totally off caffeine so if I run out of Protein shakes and don't have one in the morning I feel kind of sluggish. I do the Premier Protein snack size. It's 8 oz, 100 cal., and 18g Protein.

I'm more than two years out, and I still drink Protein shakes. I really like them as a way to reach my Protein goal (70) when I am low but don't want to add a lot of calories. I like the EAS vanilla and strawberry flavors (and price). They are 100 calories and 17 grams of protein in just 11 ounces. I also still eat Protein Bars.

I find the shakes and bars are really helpful when I have a busy day and am on the go. It keeps me from going to a fast food place. I love that I can now buy Protein drinks at most gas stations.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
