artccc 0 Posted November 6, 2013 I am three years post-surgery and am severely Iron and B12 anemic. I have weekly B12 shots, so that seems to be working, but I take three iron pills a day and still no improvement on that front. Has anyone had this problem? How did you resolve it? My doc's suggestion seems to simply be keep adding pills and testing my blood!

oldoneyoungagain 200 Posted November 6, 2013 The infusions are even worse. I had a patient who had to have them and they took four hours and hurt. The doctor finally told her to discuss with her surgeon to have the bypass revised.
Samantha1 1 Posted November 13, 2013 I actually received 3 pints of blood earlier in the yr and b/c of this, my Iron and B12 are severly low. My blood dr administers B12 weekly. This Im told stores in your liver and can take a minute too get correct if you never knew it was low. I also receive rhe iron infusions. I got one the day before my gastric bypass in Aug, and the next in Oct. They are a 4 hour infusion but according to my dr, the infusion works its way into the bone marrow and kinda wakes it up to begin reproducing the red blood cells. The pain felt is usually a couple days after infusuon and is more or less flu like symptoms. Just the pain and aicking...spelling im sure is wrong. The blood drs call the infusion devils juice b/c its so red. The infusionist will give you a benedryl injection during infusion, so you can sleep while receiving it. My surgeon told me that its normal too have anemia after surgery. The iron pills make you constipated, and as you know laxatives are not good for us. In my opinion, it would not hurt too ask about it. I hope this has helped in some sort of way.xoxo
ranchbrat 5 Posted March 15, 2014 I just found out that my Iron is low, my Dr. put me on liquid iron that tastes disgusting. I took it with some applesauce and it automatically gave me a bellyache. I was taking 30 mg of the Celebrate iron tablets but maybe I need to increase it to 60mg. Does anyone else have this kind of iron issues?
