Protein???

interesting.... is the Optimum Nutrition "good", Andrew?

Everyone's so different though... I might like that sweet one and find the O.N. one too bland. You really just need to try a whole bunch. It's too bad you can't get samples of EVERYthing.

I prefer the ON one to the NxCare in terms of taste, plus at that price it is pretty cheap. I am not too picky in terms of tatse if I need it sweeter I have some stevia that I can add. The taste on these is such a personal thing, but I did use the ON Classic for a number of years.

I also found SND Canada http://www.sndcanada.com has the ON Gold Standard on sale for $39.99 for the 5lbs which is pretty good price. The Gold has lactase and some other enzymes added for better absorbtion and to help those who have difficulty digesting lactose.

I am not too concerned with the whole protien technology as I am not a muscle head, I just want a quick easy solution for the mornings that helps me boost my protien intake.

Andrew

The formula for Protein is you are supposed to have 1.2 grams of protein for every kilo (which is 2.2 lbs) but if you are in a weight loss phase of your life you should have roughly 60 grams of protein daily at a min. And getting that in isn't too hard if you start looking at how much protein is in what you eat. Things like skim milk has 1 gram of protein per oz, combine that we with a Protein Shake that has 20 grams of protein per scoop and with one drink you are almost to 1/2 your daily intake.

Also keep in mind your body can't process more than 30 grams of protein in 30 minutes if you eat more than that it is just flushed out of your system as waste products.

Has anyone here tried Protein Bars since being banded? I am a fan of bars as a quick solution to a Meal Replacement when pressed for time. Some have better ingredients than others and some are much higher in Protein than others. I haven't been banded yet so I'm not sure if I will still be able to tolerate them or not. What do others think?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
