PLUUSGRL 13 Posted November 5, 2013 Thank you. I was wondering because my pcp offered to write a prescription for it to add to my weight loss so that I can hopefully be under 300 pounds by surgery time
bb00024 21 Posted November 5, 2013 My first surgeon offered it for the pre-op diet. It tried to take it, but I couldn't do it. I wasn't able to concentrate, because of the jitters it gave me.
Btimes3_RNY 0 Posted November 5, 2013 Is that was they use to prescribe during the phen-fen diets 20 she's ago? Maybe o e of the medications?
Dorian 683 Posted November 5, 2013 I took it before surgery but my pcp would only give me a months script. I lost 27 on it and another 13 on my own before surgery. 1 PLUUSGRL reacted to this
bb00024 21 Posted November 5, 2013 Yes Phentermine is one of the two pills from the Phen-fen diet. It gives me jitters and it gives my sister heart palpitations. I work and go to school so I needed to read and study, with this pill I wasn't able to do it. It gives you a lot of energy, but it wasn't energy I could harness into anything productive. Btimes3_RNY 0 Posted November 5, 2013 Yea.... that's some crazy stuff .... I took it for a week and that was all I could handle.... half the time I felt like a zombie the other half I thought my heart was going to come right out of my chest.... my dad was also on it... he had a trach due to severe sleep apnea and after taking it for a couple of days his BP was so high he started bleeding from his trach.... I can't believe they still prescribe that stuff....
qtinkc1383840066 7 Posted November 5, 2013 Anybody ever been placed on phentermine during the 6 month pre op diet to lose weight? My pcp also prescribed phentermine during my 6 months. My insurance required I lose 5% of my weight before approval. Without it, I don't know if I would have. As long as you're being monitored while on it, you should be fine. I'm in my 2 week pre op liquid diet now and sure wish I could have some. I'm struggling bad and it's just day one. 1 PLUUSGRL reacted to this

PLUUSGRL 13 Posted November 5, 2013 Thank you all for your comments. I will take it all into consideration. I am going to call my surgeon after he gets my referral letter this week and has a chance to check over my records and ask him about it. I love this forum! Jacqueline K 93 Posted November 5, 2013 Several years ago I started this process and my insurance then required the 6 month pre op diet and I started it- the doctor then gave me the phentermine. I lost 80 pounds then and was so happy that I decided not to have the surgery. I didn't realize at that time that the pills only work for so long.... I ended up gaining that 80 pounds back plus about 60 on top of that! My insurance this year didn't require the 6 month diet so I had my bypass May 30th and have lost 101 pounds thus far. I am still not back to that low I reached with the phentermine yet... still up 26 pounds from that weight. I regret not having the surgery back then. The phentermine is great if you are trying to get to a certain number for pre op success but it's results aren't lasting. 1 Doing It 4 Them reacted to this

My doctor would like me to be under 300 lbs before surgery and because I was losing so slowly she suggested trying it. I have a week to decide. Your comment makes sense to me. Thanks again.
