Time Off Work

Recommended Posts

I was lucky to have six weeks off but only 'cos I am an international flight attendant and the risk was too high after this surgery for blood clots and complications if something didn't go right in the first few weeks, what line of work do you do? I know I was lucky to get that much time off work, and believe me I made the most of it, thought I would be assigned ground duties but managed to escape that!

I was home for a week and then went back to work. I arranged with my mgr to walk around every few hours because if I didn't my stomach got too tight and I had to walk the gas off.

I office at home via the phone and internet. It may be hard to believe but I worked on the smae day as my surgery! From what I've seen, if you have your band done as an out patient, most people take a week off. If you have to lift, bend and stretch at your job, you may need longer, perhaps 2 or 3 weeks.

I saw that some people here went back to work within a few days. Don't know how they did that!

I took 3 weeks off. I have to lift and carry heavy things, and was afraid that they might hit the port site, and that would not be good. I only went back 2 days ago, and all is going well.

I had surgery Monday, got out of the hospital Tuesday afternoon, and went back to work Wednesday. I have a desk job in an office environment so nothing strenuous at all...

12 days total. Went back on the 13th day...had no energy, still hurting a bit, but I got through it. It's been 24 days now, and I'm at 97% energy and no pain at all.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
