Hi everyone! My name is michelle. I started my journey in September. I have been so torn between the rny and sleeve. I looked into rny first then saw the sleeve and ever since then did not know which to pick. I love the research behind rny but I love the sleeves not so scary complications. My aunt had rny maybe 5-6 years ago and I know she had a lot of complications which makes me nervous and where I'm so young I'm so afraid I will deal with a lot of complications. I guess I just read way too many things. Anyways my surgeon is amazing at rny he has sooo many successful patients with it with minimal complications. I guess I just need some guidance in choosing. Help!

Welcome! I'm a revision band to bypass. I tried the band first because I was afraid of the bypass even though my mom had the bypass 21 years ago. I'm now loving my bypass and wish I would have chosen it the first go around. My Doctor recommended the sleeve (which has provided individuals with great results) but I've seen where people do the sleeve to bypass revision so I opted for the bypass because I didn't want to risk needing another revision. Both procedures have their risk but you must think positive. Good luck with your decision! Make are you choose the one you want and not the one others tell you to get. Keep us posted.

The reason why I chose the RNY is because you lose the most the most weight with RNY. If I was going to have ANY type of surgery I wanted to get the best bang for my buck. I had no complications what so ever and was back to work in 1 week :)

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
