SoccerMomma73 1,867 Posted November 2, 2013 No no no, no giving up!!! Keep pushing til the bitter end. It totally sucks but is so worth it. Also, I think the staff like to put the fear of God in us . Hopefully she's bluffing and all will be fine. GOOD LUCK!!!!! TurnThePage 220 Posted November 2, 2013 They know that pre-op diets are not particularly successful. There is plenty of statistical evidence of that. But they need to press you to do your very best during that process. You'd be surprised at how many people just blow it off and spend the pre-op time right up to the night before surgery, gorging on food (often called food funerals). I don't know how tactful the nurse was, but staff also tries to help you be aware that there are no guarantees in the process. A fair number of patients are denied surgery and have to appeal to get the operation. Do not be discouraged! Think of this as an exercise in strengthening your determination and your focus on your goals. Do the best you can each day, and when that day is done, learn from it and move on. Good luck! 2 cgreen1383840061 and xiomara8868 reacted to this
LissaLou 6 Posted November 2, 2013 My insurance actually states that someone must "fail to lower their BMI with a 6 month medically supervised diet and exercise program". Unless your insurance policy says otherwise, your weight loss or gain may not have much to do with the approval. You fulfilled the 6 month requirement - that is what counts in most cases. Waiting is hard. Hang in there and be sure to let us know when you get their decision. 1 cgreen1383840061 reacted to this
cgreen1383840061 10 Posted November 2, 2013 Thank you all. Nerves a tad bit better. Will post as soon as I hear something. Clinic told me 7 to 10 days after paperwork is submited I should hear something. I guess everyone gets a little anxious around this point of the journey. Again thank you. Clinic told me 7 to 10 days after paperwork is submited I should hear something. I guess everyone gets a little anxious around this point of the journey. Again thank you. It's horrible . For my RNY (my revision) I already KNEW I was approved but was still convinced they'd change their mind until I actually got the darn surgery and was totally DONE....this will make you totally crazy . Best of luck! 1 cgreen1383840061 reacted to this
hottamale 27 Posted November 3, 2013 I agree. I felt like insurance could deny me even after I had been approved. Really messes with your mind! 1 cgreen1383840061 reacted to this
B.J. 16 Posted November 3, 2013 If it makes you feel better, I gained 5 pounds during my supervised diet. I didn't lose a pound and I was approved. I think you will be fine. 1 cgreen1383840061 reacted to this
Shear Diva 19 Posted November 3, 2013 I only lost 2 pounds during my 3 months of supervised weight loss. I gained that back plus 3 more pounds before I had surgery & I was still approved. I lost pounds before my surgery because the surgeon said I had to lose to shrink my liver or he would not do the surgery! I think you will be fine. Holly071383840077 0 Posted November 4, 2013 I have been going through the process since May of this year. I passes everything with flying colors and was approved from the ins. Co. I've had problems with losing my 10 lbs....I mean common, this is why we are all getting the surgery right? Well Oct 29th I was supposed to get my surgery date. The nurse even told me " if u gain a few pounds it will be ok. You will still get your surgery date." Well I gained 4 of the 10 lbs back. Mind you every time they schedule me its around my period. Well the Dr/ Surgeon was like "well looks like you aren't getting your surgery this year." I was so upset. I've done EVERYTHING they asked me to do. My ins company does not require weight loss, does not require supervised weight loss. Nothing. I hit my maximum out of pocket so it was covered 100%. Now I have to fork out another 3500 next year to get it done. :-(

I gained weight too and my surgeon said he sees it a lot due to the "last supper" syndrome. Lol I would give the office a call and at least tell them that you already have your max o/p paid and you want the surgery this year.
