If you DO NOT WANT to have the surgery, then it would be a HUGE MISTAKE to proceed at this time. You do not mention any reason that indicates it is medically necessary for you to have the surgery immediately, so back off. Give yourself a grace period of 60 days. Get some help to sort this out. It sounds like you are having difficulties in your marriage as well; that should ideally be sorted outbefore you proceed and add any more stress to your life.

You can always reschedule in a couple of months if you decide to go ahead. But if you go ahead with the surgery before your are emotionally prepared, there is no practical way to undo the surgery.

This is a body-altering, permanent, lifelong commitment and you are likely to have serious emotional, and perhaps physical, problems coping with the surgery and the new lifestyle habits it entails if you are angry, depressed and resentful.

PLEASE call your doctor on Monday and let them know you have SERIOUS reservations so you can get professional psychological counseling before you proceed. The fact that you are "sleeping, sleeping, sleeping" indicates that you are seriously depressed. You may benefit from anti-depressant medication as well as therapy. Neither of these are magic bullets that will suddenly make things okay overnight, but than can help you in fairly short order.

The bypass is a great tool, but ONLY if you are willing to welcome it into your life and make all the eating and other changes that are part of the program. The surgery is important, but the "head work" and commitment are at least 80% of your long term success. If you are fighting the bypass you will only be adding more problems to the ones you are already struggling with.

We all get the jitters before surgery and usually that just means we need some more support and information before we go ahead. But if your worries are more than simple anxiety, please take a step back and get some professional help before you make any decisions. Take good care of yourself!

I agree. Take time to get everything straightened out first because RNY is a life long change! It is the best thing I'VE ever done but I was ready for it and very informed beforehand.

NO, I have to have for Bile Reflux, I had the sleeve in Jan. I am below my goal weight can Not keep any food or Water down. I am sick all the time. I have to have the RYN to fix the Bile Reflux. I am weak and getting IV fluids about once a week now. So It is medically needed.

Thank you for clarifying. I'm so sorry that your bile reflux is pushing you towards something you don't want. It is obviously very difficult, which makes me think all the more that having professional guidance to support your through this would be a huge help.

I hope that when you get through the surgery, you will find as many of us have, that it is the best thing you've ever done for yourself. It is a major change, but it is very doable. Sending you prayers and big hugs!

It's got to be scary and I wish you nothing but the best. Let us know how you are doing. If I can help in any way..advise, listening ear etc please feel free to message me.

I understand you do not want to have the rny but hopefully it will put an end to your discomfort and improve your physical and mental health. I know depression is very common when you're in chronic pain or dealing with a prolonged illness. Make sure your doctor is aware of your emotional state during this process. Sending prayers your way for a positive outcome.

I like your doc already. :) Message me if you ever need to talk. I think you'll feel much better after surgery. Stay strong and keep faith that this is a good choice for you even it isn't what you wanted initially. You got this!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
