I've been in the December Surgery thread of the Pre-Surgery Forum. But I wanted to know from the men here if any of you, who've had the surgery, have had buyer's remorse. My surgeon's dietitian told me everyone has it, but they mostly get over it by the time they're eating soft foods. The idea of doing this to my internal organs FREAKS ME OUT!

I'm 3 weeks out and haven't had it yet. HATED the post-op liquids stage (wanted to chew on my own fingers, lol) but knew it was necessary to let everything heal :-)

Thanks UKsleever! I'm also hoping to hear from the guys who've had it. BTW I have kids in London. Are you near there?

I'm not a guy, but I had it bad for a couple weeks. I cried daily and thought to myself why in the world did I do this to myself. All I want is a slice of pizza!

Now 17 months later it was the best decision I ever made.

Thanks music 1618! That's what the NUT said. Here's hoping any regrets don't last long! ;-)

I used to live close to London but moved to Scotland a few years ago. Do your kids like London?

I had it in the first few weeks but in my case, it really wasn't related to food so much as just the "foreverness" of the whole thing. "I actually had an elective surgery that literally changed the physiology of my body! OMG!"

It's actually kind of funny now but it wasn't at the time. Now it's "why did I wait so long??" I would do it again in a heartbeat! I'm living the life that not that long ago I did not believe would ever be possible. Just doesn't get any better than that!!

'Foreverness' is definitely the word I'm trying to accept, along with the drastic and damaging surgery on my innards! I hope to be able to look at it as one of the best things I've done, in hindsight.

I'm with you on the forever thing. I'm four days out and still trying to get my mind right. The pain of the surgery surprised me. I've had back surgery, but this was in a totally different league. I remember them saying in class that there would be a slight discomfort. SLIGHT? Today is better than yesterday, so I know this too shall pass. I keep staring at the 1 oz cups wondering if I can squeeze 5 oz of Water into it. :)

Thanks justn! That's more like what I expect will happen with me. Though I hope it'll be better, like everyone else!

A co-worker who's about three years out from his RNY said the worst pain was from right after surgery to a few days later from trying to get the co2 gas out of his torso, that they used to inflate the area they did the surgery. He said his best advice was to get up and walk immediately and as often as possible to help the co2 dissipate.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
