Hi! Peoples I am interested in getting bypass surgery, I've already spoke with my primary care doctor, she's sending my referral to a surgeon and I've set up an appointment for a seminar on the 7th of November. I'm basically just asking what's the process and all, if you can spare any advice that would be appreciated! Thanks!

The process can be different, depending on what program your doctor is involved with, what your insurance requires, and your own general health and age.

I decided on rny after regaining all the weight I lost on Optifast, and then my weight started to climb even higher. I only has two pairs of slacks and a few tops that fit and I refused to buy bigger clothes. My back was killing me, so were my knees and feet. I'd come home from work and sit on the couch till bedtime - I had no energy and was exhausted. I was prediabetic and my cholesterol was getting high. I was not living my life - I was suffering through it.

After making my decision and attending the seminar, my surgeon's office set up many appointments for me. I needed two w/the surgeon, complete labs, chest x-ray and EKG, two appointments with the dietician, two appointments with the psychiatrist, pulmonary tests, stress-test with a cardiologist (required for people over 50), medical clearance, nurse education class, and three workshops. My insurance required a documented failed weight loss which was easy for me because I did Optifast a few years ago and my insurance paid for the copays for nine months. The whole process, from seminar to surgery, took 3 1/2 months.

I'm five months out and down 68lbs. I also lost 12lbs pre-op for a total of 80lbs lost. I feel great and have lots of energy. My back, knee, and foot pain is gone. I don't need cholesterol meds anymore and all my labs are normal. I like to shop for clothes. I don't dread the future anymore and I'm LIVING my life now, not just suffering through it. I'm pretty happy. :-)

I am so glad you are feeling better now, I appreciate you taking the time to reply to my post! I know what you mean about the pain... Right now I can barely walk from my lower back pain, my doc called me today saying I have high triglycerides so I dont know if that's something rny can help with also... I'm in New York and know a few ppl who have had rny but they aren't too helpful. So I figured I join a forum for help! Thanks for your info and best of luck to you with continuing on your journey!

I started my journey in November of 2012. After having my gallbladder out the surgeon told me I had fatty liver, more specifically, I had the liver of a 70 year old and he recommended WLS. That January I started the approval process which entailed: 7 nutrition visits, a psych eval, and medical clearance. In July I was denied and then approved a week later. My surgery was scheduled for 9/16/13. I did another medical clearance appt., blood work, x-rays, and a endoscopy.

I'll be 7 weeks post-op on Monday and I'm doing great. No complications.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
