Hey Yall... Im Dawn. 5feet 228 was highest weight, now down to 219.. did my pre op testing on this past friday the 25th and was cleared and surg was set for the 4th (this monday) until I got a call yesterday that my EKG was irregular and now I have to go get a full work up on thursday and must get a clear for surgery and anesth. in order to procede THEN my doc tells me my urin is still showing nicotine. I quit 17 months ago and have been using a 2mg electric cig and now he wants that stopped AND he wants me to continue to loose weight or else on all fronts he threatens to cancel surgery. I am really frustrated and cant seem to stop crying.... I was doing so good, walking and loosing, good mood excited after all the hardwork to final see the light... then all this. I asked if I should be worried about the EKG and she said no, if it was bad they would have held you on that friday.. so wtf? Why do I have to go through all of this than.. then the ecig thing which drives me crazy cause it was SO hard to quit smoking after 29 years! I did it though... if that stupid ecig at sucha low mg helps me I dont see what the big is.... Thank you for listening to me rant... I know you have all had your own frustration with this process as we are constantly jumping through hoops... this time tho I am really feeling it......xoxo Dawn

You can do it. I don't know the big either, but you can do it. Ask yourself how bad do you want it. Then there is your answer. Sending you much love.... Don't give up.

I understand your frustration, but be very glad they caught the heart issues. It may be just a minor irregularity, something you've always had, but then again it might not and the last place you want that discovered is in the operating room! You may have to take a stress test and some other tests while they sort it out. Just be patient because it is all meant to insure that you are safe and will have the best possible results.

The e-cigs are a crutch that you will have to let go, but it's worth it! Any amount of nicotine can cause problems so your doctor is just being cautions. You can research the surgical complications of nicotine to understand why he is doing this.

Just keep making good choices with your food and exercise and you will be laying a good foundation for your post-op success. Don't brood over these speed bumps, look at the road ahead!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
