New, nervous, excited could use support

Recommended Posts

Hi I'm new here 22 years old and considering gastric bypass... Did my 6 month clearance, have my surgery date, did my pre-op class just waiting for my insurance to clear me... Anyway I downloaded this app a while back but haven't posted much since I was kinda afraid to jinx my chances of having the surgery... But I really need support so I'm crawling out of my comfort zone and going to start asking loads of questions for those who can help & have gone through this...

As my surgery date approaches I'm getting more nervous, and some questions popped in my head for instance...

Can you go on to have a vaginal delivery if you've had wls?

Can you breastfeed? (I'm a huge breastfeeding advocate & plan on having another baby in the future so these 2 questions are a huge concern)

I have tons of question but just writing this spooked my nervous lol & forget most of them...

If your near my age or have being through this for a long time I would love to private message you :)

Maybe be weight loss friends? Anyway thanks for reading I could use support my nervous are out the window...

Hi. I wouldn't think you have a thing to worry about with birth / feeding. If there was an issue, our surgeons would mention it, especially at your age. Check with your team but I can't think there would be any reason to worry.

It always makes me happy to see a young person like you going for the surgery. I'm 40 now and if I could save myself the struggle of weight loss / regain over the last 20 years, I would.

Do it early, get rid of this issue as soon as you can and live a full, whole life :-)

You need to discuss these things with your surgeon and get very clear answers so you can make a good decision on your surgery. Don't rely on the experiences or notions of others. Good luck!

Ask away! Of course ask your surgeon for all final answers, at least the medical ones! The most important thing to remember that each and every person will have a different experience. Good luck.

I agree with asking your surgeon about the medical question but the personal ones that I have are better to be asked to people that have gone through the process i believe my surgeon is super sweet and knowledgable but at the end of the day he does the surgery he doesn't know what it's like to be the person who has to take the journey ....

I guess I'm just nervous because I do feel alone, yes my husband and mom support me but they are both thin and don't understand my worries ...

I hear a lot of positive things about the surgery but the negatives also scare me

Anorexia

hair loss

I was also wondering - I know you need to take Vitamins ... Any suggestions?

Also during stage 1 do you take the Vitamins I'm confused about that

Turn The Page. Moderate your language. The girl has a perfectly normal question and that's what this forum is for. I learned most of what I needed to know from here. What I would not have needed is an answer telling me I'm obviously not ready bc I don't know the answer to a simple question. Maybe her team haven't mentioned it. Like I say, that's why we're here!

You will have to take Vitamins and supplements such as Iron every day for the rest of your life after RNY due to the malabsorption. If you did not understand this very basic fact about RNY after having your classes and six months to research and think about this' date=' you are probably not yet ready to make a well-reasoned decision on the type of surgery you want and proceed with the operation. Please understand that this is not said to chastise you, but to alert you to a potential problem. Please contact your surgeon's office so you can increase your knowledge and and clearly understand the pros, cons, requirements and the risks of potential complications of each type of surgery. Once part of your stomach is removed, you have few options. WLS is a wonderful tool, but you will be much happier if you have a clear understanding and make the right choice for you.[/quote']

Actually I don't have 6 months of research... I have about 4 years of going through this and doctors and all of that if you didn't understand my question than I obviously didn't make myself clear... I don't need to be alerted about anything ... I understand the complications and the risks the pros and cons ... I've gone to about different surgeons trying to find the best one...

I know for the rest o you life you'll need to supplement

I just asked if there were any good brand people could suggest ...

And what I meant WAS since during stage 1 you can only have Clear liquids do you still take your Vitamin or do you crush it and mix it with your liquid that is what I meant

Please read my questions carefully and if you don't understand just ask ... I don't need a lecture just advice

Thank you :)

If it helps , I took Sanatogen A-Z every day before my surgery so after I just switched to the same but chewable as they're quite big. I'll go back to the normal ones when these run out and maybe just break them in half to take them.

My sincere apologies! That was written in response to an entirely different post and erroneously posted here. I'm sorry!

Try looking into Bariatric Advantage Vitamins. From what I've read on here it seems like there tends to be a lot of different answers on here about Vitamins. From the research I know of we need specially formulated vitamins bc of the RNY physical mechanics. Which makes sense. The body can't absorb "regular" vitamins, even those w/o surgery don't actually absorb the full amount. Bariatric Advantage has both chewable and liquid formulas that actually taste good. There is another company, Nutrametrix that is all liquids. I had RNY 9 years ago and was instructed to take Centrum, Citracal, and any Ferrous Fumarate Iron and sublingual B-12. I have developed some bad Vitamin deficiencies. My NUT recommends started the vitamins right away since they are chewable and/or liquid.

Good luck!

Yes I have seen people with a lot of extra skin and them others with minimal which freaks me out a bit too I guess just the thought of not being prepared freaks me out so I have been day and night informatively preparing myself for everything any bumps and stuff the Vitamins is a big concern to me so I like hearing people's input on how their selection worked for them

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
