I might have a stricture. Have you had one?

Recommended Posts

I went to the doc for my two month post op and let him know that I can't seem to keep most solids down. He wants to setup an endoscopy.

Tell me your stories. Does it hurt after? Is there recovery time? Will I be starting over?

I had a stricture at 4 weeks post op and had to have it dilated open. They did it at the same time they did my endoscope and it was no big deal at all. I could not even tell that I had anything done and I was able to eat the same things I was eating before. It was nothing at all. Try not to worry about it.

I'm about a little over a month out of surgery struggling with not keeping solids down... I keep liquids down and some other stuff like cottage cheese and applesauce...but a lot of the time I'm throwing up after I eat. I have a feeling that I'm eating too fast but My surgeon also wants to do an endoscopy... But if it was stenosis, wouldn't I not be able to hold anything down?

Well, if it's a stricture it's scar tissue blocking the full passage so they have to look. To see what it is and will most likely do what needs to be done while they're in there. Even when I eat slowly and chew it thoroughly it still comes back up. This must be close to misery.

Oh man, I hope I'll be able to eat after. I've lost so much weight so fast that it has to be a blockage.

Yes, i had a stricture with my sleeve. I have had 8 scopes to stretch it with a balloon as well as 9 weeks with a stomach stent...not fun. The endoscopic procedures are not bad at all! Dont worry about them. I did not know you could also have strictures with a bypass. That bothers me because my doctor is sggesting a bypass to correct my problem. I dont need to lose anymore weight but I do need to be able to keep food down. Goodluck to you.

I was diagnosed with an ulcer which caused me not to be able to handle much and throw up when I did eat... Apparently ulcers are the norm after surgery .... I had an endoscopy and that's how he diagnosed it... Took some meds for 6 weeks and he said I'll have to be on nexium for the rest of my life... It'll be ok.. I hate to say this is normal but it seems normal for us , take care

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
