My PCP ordered some blood tests because the surgeon's office wouldn't share the results of their blood tests. (now we know why health care costs so much) She had an EKG done to check my heart. That was it.

It depends largely on your clinical history. The PCP is just checking that you are in good overall health before surgery and that there are no issues the surgeon and anesthesiologist should note.

Thank you so much.... Getting in to see my PCP is the difficulty..... Was 15 mins late (car trouble), and they cancelled my appointment...couldn't get me back in for another month.....I seen the Physicians Assistant as a walk-in, never seen her before.....she would not clear me for surgery because I have lost 20 pounds in the past year....from 252 to 232 losing about 1.5 pounds per month and regaining in there too a few times of about 5 pounds......but, she said just keep up the good work 20 pounds in a year is good....meanwhile I'm on Vicodin for knee pain just to be able to exercise....and physical therapy and chiropractor so in another 5 years ill be at my goal weight! Lol! Some people have no clue ...... Calling everyday to check for cancellations....I need clearance by Oct.28th so I can schedule surgery then, shooting for week before Thanksgiving, I'm certain my PCP will give me clearance ;)

I wish people would think before they speak! 20lbs weight loss is great no matter how long it takes..personally I have 150lbs to lose! I am glad your PCP will help! I was late to a recent PCP appointment and luckily they could still get me in but I can understand the headache!! Is there anyway u can call and speak to your PCP..a lot of times they are willibg to make a time for you. I am required to go exactly 30 days apart and the office stafg refused to help one month. I left a message with the nurse for my doctor and she was not happy they were not more understanding or at least asked her if she was willing to squeeze me in..and she did! So talking to the nurse and explaining whats going on may help ?

Aside from arranging for me to attend the initial weight loss seminar, my PCP wasn't involved in the process at all. My surgeon's office took care of everything. They ordered all the labs and arranged appointments w/the cardiologist and the pulmonary doctor who, in addition to the pulmonary testing, evaluated me and gave me my medical clearance. I won't see my PCP again until my next yearly checkup after the holidays. Love, love, love my surgeon's office. They made every appointment in a timely manner and worked with my schedule. All I had to do was show up when they told me to. It was a totally stress-free experience. I HIGHLY recommend Wareham Surgical Associates in Wareham MA. :-)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
