Ever feel like you'll never get there?

Recommended Posts

Let me preface this by saying I have had great success so far and am quite happy with my progress. In no way do I feel like a slow loser. But... I also keep wondering if I will really ever lose all this weight? My stomach (mainly the lower part) is barely going down in size, which makes me wonder if maybe I will have this big lower stomach forever and maybe never get smaller than an 18 or 16 in jeans? I wear an xl-xxl shirt depending on the maker, but can't help but think this is it, though I need to lose about 60 more pounds.

So, to those who have been there- are these thoughts normal? Did anyone wonder if they would never get there, but did? Does anyone else feel like this?

Please don't worry. You aren't even six months out from surgery. You will lose more weight. Everyone loses at a different pace and stalls are common. Just keep following your doctor and nut instructions and you will be just fine.

Thank you! I know common sense dictates I will be successful since I have been so far, but it can be so hard to live in the moment!

Sorry I re-read your most and what you said. It can be scary to think we went through this surgery and that we won't achieve our goal weight. You may or may not to be honest but if your health has improved it is not just about the number on the scale or the size on the label. Keep your head and stay positive. You will do great.

I sometimes feel the same if I focus on my Weight...then I remember to just follow the plan. I had my surgery on 4/29, and I remember that I still have a long time to lose..it's slowing down, but if I kept losing at the rate I was, I'd be emaciated very quickly. It seems like I stay in the same size FOREVER...and then I'll get my perspective...it's like a month, then I have to buy down a size. It's definitely a marathon for this girl.

Ha! Good point- I have lost ~83 lbs in 5 months, so yeah, if I kept that up I wouldn't be looking so hot! I also feel like I have been the same size forever, but thinking about it, I was a solid 22 a month ago, and now am an 18. The tops are slowing down, but initially I lost very quickly in that department. I guess I just needed to hear from others that have been there/done that (or are doing it) that this is normal, and that I probably will get there. If not, it certainly is not from lack of effort. I also think that there is a huge difference between a lane bryant xl and an xl from normal stores, which makes me feel worse, but shouldn't, I know.

Yes, I harbor these thoughts. Completely normal. My biggest hope is to get down to 120# and stay at this weight for good. I am at the mercy of my body no matter how much I follow or un-follow the plan. I can want my 120# all day long if my body says otherwise. We shall see.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
